Has anyone ever got a hitch put on there car to carry a small boat and trailer? How much do think it would cost to get a hitch put on? I have Toyota Camry with 220 hp. And what type of small boat do you think would be good.

we have a kia spectra and have hauled a lighter boat (12 foot aluminiun). had the hitch done at the hitch shop in calgary

Take it to The Hitch Shop.

Also remember it is one thing to get what you are towing going, but it is another matter entirely on how you are going to stop. Make sure your brakes can handle the weight of what you are going to stop.

hitch stop is so over priced.
go to uhaul on blackfoot, with the hitch, install and electrical for 250 last summer.

Have you checked Toyota? They may have a bolt on hitch for your vehicle.

I was driving down deerfoot trail yersterday & had a car pass me towing a 8 foot tent trailer, the trailer was higher than the car. It was an older car & must have been going over 110. He didn't seem to be having any problem with the weight.

This would be my concern as well....hopefully the lakes you are launching at have a decent launch with cement pads....I would imagine you could back up as far as possible and push the boat off to launch it? and use the winch to get it back out....most cars are so low to the ground I don't imagine you would be able to back up far enough to launch the boat properly. Then again if the boat is small enough you could "hand bomb" it off and on....

No problem . You will have to pick the boat launch you use carefully as you likely will not be able to get out into the water as far as a pickup. But if all you have is a car and it will handle the boat safely then go for it.

I tow a 13' Boston Whaler with my Mazda Protege' 5 (the hatch). Towing and stopping aren't a problem with 4 wheel disc brakes. The manufacturer says not to do it, of course, so if you're under waranty, might not be a good idea.

What is a problem, however, is launching. There is plenty of power, but I'm restricted to paved launches. A lot of the places that I'd like to launch are out of the question, unfortunately, and most of the paved ramps charge to launch.

Still better than not having a boat, but if there are only gravel "ramps" where you plan to spend most of your time, a car topper might be a better bet.

My first boat was a little 14ft fiberglass with a 50 up Johnson. The whole setup must have weighed 1500lb range. My truck broke down and we hauled it from north east of Edmonton to pigeon lake and launched on the awful launch there with his mid 80s tempo. Pick your launches carefully. Wether it was legal or not I can't say. We had lights and the cAr pulled well. 4cyl manual. This was a while ago.

You may be able to even unhook the trailer and wheel it in and out by hand if it is not too heavy.

I pull my quads with my 01 jetta tdi, check the sticker on the door and all should be good.
Like others said pulling isn't the problem its the stopping that can cause issues
