Hi Everyone,
Just hoping someone out there can tell me a good lake where I can fish for Rainbows around Edmonton. Thanks for the help.

Hermitage lake in the NE has been slow lately but is a popular spot. Most of the fishing shops around should have a river map that shows fishing locations. Its free and a good way to start if you're new to the area. Also make sure you check the fishing regulations before you go out. Not all lakes have the same regulations. Have fun!

A river map is not going to help him find rainbows.
Try any of the following;Cardiff, Chickakoo, sauer, east pit, lacomb park, hermitage park, Beaumont ( four seasons park),morinville, spring, star, and a few others I am sure I missed.

Granted, but if he's looking for rainbows, he may want some more info and not know about the river map. Just trying to help ;)

I've been having great luck at Sauer lake over the last few weeks. I've just been going to the north end and standing on the beaver lodge. The fish are pretty decent size compared to most other stocked lakes around, averaging 10-12 inches. To get to this lake go west on the yellowhead trail until hwy 779 and head north, I'd say its about 6-7km until you come to range road 540 go west 8km until you get to Chickacoo rereational area. Follow the road until you come to a T intersection that is beside Chickacoo lake and turn right and then pull off at the first area you see and head down to Sauer, the beaver lodge is right there. If you are fly fishing they have been going after pheasant tail nymphs but if not try a pikeral rig with marsh mellows.
Good luck!

Hi, how was the mosquito situation there? Last time I went (about 2-3 weeks ago) was terrible, and also does the fish contain boils?:)

big ol' bows at Muir lake still.... witnessed some jergoff fishing off the bottom with marshmellows [ILLEGAL] pull a 25'' beauty out of there about 30 seconds before it started to rain.

good luck catching them from shore though, you pretty much need a boat n a small trollin' motor. Once you get out into the middle of the lake try putting around with a pm spinner medium size, maybe a couple split shot to get er to the bottom. If your a fly guy try going deep with a damsel and wiggling it a bit.

considering that the fish MUST be 20''+ to keep, there all beautys in this lake.
please treat it properly.

NO BAIT!

Been to Sauer and Chicakoo recently. Fish in Chicakoo were easier to catch but are small for the most part. Sauer are a nice size but I find they bite very soft and are harder to hook, also haven't been able to talk them into going after a spinner, probably because of the abundance of food in Sauer(minnows everywhere).

I was out in my canoe and it was actually fun watching the bigger trout do flybys on the minnow hoards.

Do any lakes around have nice tasting bows? I rarely keep any bows around here because most taste like mud pies.

Any fish caught in a slough is going to taste a little muddy. I liked the ones above but then again I like to eat jackfish too lol. Won't compare to a really good trout but you will be lucky to get such a fish at a store or restaurant in edmonton let alone one of the little lakes here.

I find that they taste muddier in late summer than they do in the winter and spring. If you do want to eat them in late summer either smoke them or put lots of seasoning on to mask the flavour...........lemon pepper works good for me. :)
