Looks good everyone. Im off to a pretty good start here. I've tied up 25 H&L's. http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...120_183549.jpg This fly is my number one dry fly. I like sz 10-16. Such an easy tie.
And a few of these... The Wooley Bugger. Sz 4-10. I like them heavy. This fly is my early season Brown trout slayer. http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...126_124730.jpg |
Noice :)gona have to twist up a few of those cone heads, see if my browns feel the same:sHa_shakeshout:

Here are some flies from the bench this year:
Harrison Nashs suspender shad http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps14cc1085.png My creation of game changer sculpin, next to belly-scratcher sculpin by fly fish food http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psc26a089d.png another fly fish food creation, these are my colour patterns in lake chub, foreground, and spottail shiner, background http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps065b8ce9.png Double balanced leech, I thought I originally came up with this idea, then googled it and saw other people had invented it. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps993e8c1b.png Icepick http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psfd994975.png Fish mask ice pick. I've done well with this colour combo on lakes http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps3ac0ba8d.png Valadi worms http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps0c48bcac.png |
I love tying BIG flies and I believe they are more effective. Fish would rather eat a 12" fish and have a full meal rather than a 3" snack, that's my opinion anyways. Here are some of my pike flies. They are actually super easy to tie, the hardest part is just splaying the bucktail.
Starburst perch http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...rbustperch.jpg Hulk. Yes those are googly eyes. I ran out of the proper eyes but I thought that the rattle effect may help! http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...Flies/Hulk.jpg Bleeding whitefish http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...gwhitefish.jpg Bleeding perch http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...dingperch2.jpg No name for this variation yet http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/IMG_3608.jpg This one is a bit smaller but I think it will still be effective http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/IMG_1495.jpg |

I have only been tying for a couple months. Looking for some pointers on how to improve some of these patterns, or if they need improvement? Appreciate all feedback. I have only fished the black/green caddis with success. The other three are yet to get wet. Working with limited materials/colors.

1,2,5 are winners for sure. Really like the 1st one

A very good start. A couple of suggestions:
1) the hackle wraps should be increased. A higher quality hackle would help 2) very good 3) reduce bead size. Bead covered hook gape. 4 & 5) good ones Don |
Beats 21 very well done your dimensions are great. A hackle guard for your dries I would suggest. A slurpy straw with a slit in the spoon works wonders. Use the "spoon to push hackle fibers away from the eye as you whip finish. Hope that helps .

Great idea

This is using a fancy tool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkXy5...e_gdata_player. Cut a slit 1/2 along the"spoon" of a slurpy straw. Now use the slit to slide over the eye of the hook as this vid shows the tool being used. The cut should be in the long plane of the spoon. Ill post a pic of mine later.

My latest fav big fly. I tie it with some barbell eyes for some weight instead of the popper head. That channel has some good big ties |

My version of the panty dropper. Ran out of popper heads and skulls so I made a nice ugly thread head

Here are the Zonkers I tied for Flint Guy.
Pretty new to tying streamers but they should catch some pike. They are based on the first pike flies I ever got from fish tails, those flies have been very productive for me from Clairshholm to Slave lake. |

Here they are

Have any of you guys experimented with putting a lip on these streamers to make them wiggle? I tied some streamers once making lips with a utility knife, clear pop bottle plastic, and epoxy, but I never got the right balance. It takes some testing.
