what do you guys think about MaGregor? How soon we may get an ice there?

Give it another three weeks+++, pray for no snow and lower low temps, wind makes for nice ice too. There's a month's worth of weather prediction up the thread, but were they wrong on today, a true weather forecast fail.

let's keep info updated, talked to one guy in Fly shop today he said when ice on MacGregor thin white fish are biting on anything. I love getting that, in europe we call that fish - sig.

I'm sure they are hovering the shoreline all over the lake.

I'll give you an ice report tomorrow at this time if someone else doesn't post one before then.

Highly unlikely you will see more than 2" of ice on S AB reservoirs before middle of Dec. Could be some on the shore line, but best be hooked up to a life line, or it will be anchors away for you:mad0100:

No ice on Crowsnest, Emerald, or Island lakes in the pass today, but Summit Lake just across the BC border has a good start...

Last year about December 4th, Southern reservoirs had 5 inches of good ice, but, thin and sometimes open at shore. There is far less ice on some lakes this year now than last year.

Bearspaw dam was showing the first signs of ice yesterday. About 3-500 yds up from the dam. Ice was extending out about 30-50 yds from shore.

Bow river 5 miles upstream of Banff was also showing signs of freezing over. Very slow moving section that's not seen from the highway has ice along the edges and is frozen from one side to the other for about 300 yds.

Bears are still thick.

Travers had 10 inches of ice dec. 7 last year put my shack on that day. Lake will be ready to go by first weekend of december again this year. Cant wait.

Just got back from out west again.

Bow river from Lake louise downstream has ice forming now along the edges of the river. Not very far (avg. is about 1.5 ft from the shoreline) and goes as far as about 15 miles downstream of the town.

Here is an interesting small vid from Dave Genz about testing early ice. Not sure if I would fully trust his technique but sure seamed to work. Be SAFE out there.

Checked Badger today, thin ice goin about 20' out all the way around.

Checked out Chestermere when I was crossing the Bridge and only saw Water on the north side of the Bridge, the Water is super low more than the usual when they drain it for Winter. Wonder what the town or WID is doing?

Thickness of the ice squared and then multiplied by 50 = capacity of the ice in lbs.

9" of ice.
9 x 9 = 81. 81 multiplied by 50 = 4050. The ice would support 4050lbs.

Are you referring to killing the weeds at chestermere, or the ice thickness formula?

The formula is good to go, at that particular spot that you measure.

Know the weight of your vehicle and also know that ice thickness may not be consistent from one area to another because of underground springs or current.

Spray is a lot different than prairie sloughs and dug outs due it's depth. Best wait for the hardcore spray'ers to start posting before heading out on the ice there.

Wind is just as important in making ice than temperature.

went to morinville ice is still thin 1inch couple more weeks

Gregoire lake was completely froze over a week ago.Not sure on ice thickness it was just a drive by.

Some southern reservoirs that showed signs of ice are now ice free, others that were open have ice but with todays stunningly warm blast and the next 4 days should be open again. Keho is still castable on the southside and a little walking from the boat launch should put you onto Lake Whites,, too windy for my usual way. Twin is completely open but fishing was horrendous, with the wind and nary a nibble. Didn't get over to PCR but my guess is it's open. If there is ice on Chain Lakes I would not give it a go,,, all ice viewed was bubbly white.

Pigeon lake is in the process of freezing over. I would anticipate this week the entire lake would be frozen however I will be waiting to be the 2nd guy on.
