Helmet communications system
Thinking ahead.
Partner and I spend a lot of time on the sled. Id like to know what electronic helmet equipment you use to converse back and forth. Or if she is out maybe a couple miles on the lake, I can still converse with her. We have awesome mobile radios but id like us to have something inside our helmet to facilitate communications. Id say 95% of the time we are together on the sled so its just a matter of talking back and forth.... Open to your ideas. |
A couple of years ago I bought a "Riders Netphone" cheap Amazon coms device for a motorcycle trip. It has a approx 2 mile range. It pairs with mist brands easily. The BWM proprietary stuff was tougher to connect to. I only charge it once per season.

You want to be able to talk to her? Hmmm sometimes the silence is nice. But the pokes in the ribs do get annoying, maybe communication devices would be a good idea.

What do you have for radios? You can probably buy helmet kits to fit your needs. Baofeng radio kits for $20/25 . Chatterbox radios---BCA radios---Frs/Gmrs radios. Lots of options.

Lots of motorcycle riders use Sena communication system. It is pricy but apparently the best. Lots of cheaper alike alternatives, just don't know the names. If i was on the road often and rode in groups i would definitely consider buying one

Bought these when I restored my motorcycle. Works good except for when the speeds get elevated (way above legal limit) and then you cant hear because of wind noise. But then again at that point, I've got other things on my mind.
BT to phone, stream music through both driver and passenger. Connect to other brands like Sena easily. Easy one mile range through twisty sections of road. Not sure about cold weather usage though. That might be a consideration as the unit sits on the outside of the helmets and would be exposed to the wind chill factor? Possibly all of the motorcycle unit could affected in the same way? J. |
All my sled buds use those Baofeng type 2 way radios for the mountain rides. Might not be your thing as it uses a mic and an ear piece but they sure talk highly of them.

Sena is the best. I have used one and it was great!

These things sure beat the old way of turning your head to talk to your passenger and unloading a bunch of saliva on them. :)

I did this to increase the range, but not sure how the Sena “egg” will function in cold weather. I wonder how apple Air Pods will work inside a helmet since you can make calls and answer calls hands free by using Siri. |
