Does anyone know if you can fish in Jasper? Do you need a special fishing licience? Are there any good lakes there?

Check out this months Alberta Outdoorsman it has an article on fishing in K-country and Jasper. You will need a National parks license available downtown Jasper

I believe that the lakes in the national parks are closed in the winter.:thinking-006:

you do need a special licence and you can fish it for bows,1cutty lake, lots of bulls ,brookies and whitefish. though there are some pike in a few lakes.
fly fishing is the best bet.

The Sunwapta river I believe is the only body of water body in Jasper National Park that is opened to fishing right now.

Here is a link to the National Park fishing regs

Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention that the Athabasca river above the falls is also open right now as well.

Check the Jasper regs; I don't think any lakes open before May 16.
Even then, the ice may not be off. Last year I fished Maligne Lake on June 4 & 5; the ice had just fully disappeared a few days prior.

Read the regulations completely as there are a few things that are different than the provincial regs that may surprise you.

The only possible fishing for you at that time is on a portion of the Athabasca.
Otherwise is later in May when a few lakes open.
