Best piece of hunting gear?

Just wondering what's the best piece of hunting/ shooting gear you have added/ found to your kit since last season? Or if nothing new what's your old never without? Mine is definitely scope shield. I spent 3 days last year fighting wet snow foggy lenses and butler creek scope craps while hunting. Spent a few hours researching and came across the scope shield product and now all my hunting rigs have one.

What's your greatest product find ?

Does an upgrade count? I got a pair of Swaro SLC binos and I can't believe how amazing these are compared to the $200-$600 binos I've used my whole life. Second for me would be a tripod. Also blown away by how much more I see since I began glassing of the tripod.

I never go hunting without my bow/shotgun/rifle:sHa_shakeshout:

Seriously, my Buck knife that was given to me by my brother in 1983.

I switched from the frustration of wearing the bouncy bino harness (bungee type) to the Alaskan Guide Creations, outstanding piece of gear.

I try to bring along my "mind-set."

It works the best after a few cups of coffee. LOL

Looking back I cant believe I ever hunted without my binos in a harness on my chest. That has got to be the best improvement for me, especially bow hunting.

Number one is a few things, matches is top priority or good lighter of sorts, the rest my hunting gear, good boots.

Try it, you'll kick yourself for not getting one sooner.

I'm going to say my Golden Retriever. Her enjoyment of the hunt has got me hunting again! I've never hunted with anyone that has hunted harder then she does!

1 new piece of gear I got before the season was the kuiu bino harness. No bounce or sag and keeps lenses dry. An absolute must for the athlete hunter IMO. I wouldn't go without now.

Wind checker. I’m pretty sure just having it and using it regularly has improved my hunting 100%.

I sure like my ThermaSeat. I have the skinny foam one and my wife the larger cushion. Both are great for long sits because otherwise you can lose a lot of heat to the ground.

Pretty cheap, but if they are still too much I bet a guy could improvise one with just a slice of the pool noodle we all keep in the truck.

3 things.

Zeiss rangefinding binos.
Lowa footwear.
Helinox chair.

Not necessarily in that order.

A good pair of boots can make or break a hunt in my mind.

catnthehat 10-22-2017 08:37 PM

I have multiples of danged near everything from boots to gloves to rifles .
The ONLY thing that remains constant that I use on every hunt and I have only one of is my Rangefinder/ binoculars ,Leica Geovids .

A good chair.

I have a couple of different ones I use depending on where I go and how I hunt.

My Leica Geovid HDs and my Triggersticks tripod see more use than any of my other accessories, as they get used all year on varmints and on big game. The Triggersticks were a huge improvement over a bipod.

JohninAB 10-23-2017 07:59 AM

For a new piece of gear it would be my Outdoor Edge Razor Lite knife. So sharp and blade change out is a breeze and can gut and skin a moose easily with one blade. No more sharpening for this guy.

For any piece of gear it would be the Badlands Bino case from 3 years ago and my Primos Trigger Sticks for coyote calling I purchased 4 or 5 years ago. Way better than the Bog Pods I had.

Just got myself a Gen3 Primos tripod trigger stick and I am liking it! Custom knife that was made by my Uncle, got this when I was about 12 years old, still using it.

Yup, the grey matter between your ears will fill the freezer every year...run around with all the best equipment and your not in tune...well your the skinny guy at the end of winter:sHa_sarcasticlol:

A couple items come to mind:
Bino/rangefinder harness from Kuiu and my Vortex tripod for glassing. Since I started glassing with a tripod it has made a world of difference. It forces me to sit still.
