Spring setting tool
 

I’ve had some trouble with the machine screws bending on the red handled spring setters. Our new Signature Series springs from lights Out Snaring are a little more powerful then the screws can handle. I have had to replace the original machine screws with#12 x 1 1/2” long self tapping screws. Just remove original machine screws and replace with these, no drilling necessary. Makes them nicer to use for other springs too.

i drilled out the holes in mine and put in bigger bolts......don't know if it will work better 'cause haven't used them since the alteration.

I kinda do prefer to drill the holes a little larger prior to installing larger drill screws into the tool for the Supermagnum.

Are you guys serious? The bolts actually bend on those big springs?

The force on the Signature ones is 75 lbs. What is it for the Supermagnums?

The bolts are capable of bending, but if youre reasonably careful the tool can do the job as is, i went all winter with a couple standard tools without trouble, but tgen demo-ing in our store i bent two in short order. Funny thing was i caught about half my coyotes in supermagnums last winter without bending a bolt.

But, using standard tool as is, you have to ensure the arms are aligned when compressing so the one arm had to be tight against the tool, like arm literally on the nut instead of the threaded portion.

Poundage.... dependant upon whos measuring poundage. Trappers do it a few different ways, science people have their own ways, and then spring manufacturers measure their way.

Poundages of both springs will be similar. One has very long arms compared to other.

That’s right Marty my Signature Series spring has longer arms and the wire size is bigger as well which increases the springs power.

They are virtually same power, it's quite possible that the Supermagnum is stronger than the Signature, a couple thousandths of an inch spec could even be identical wires. Quite possibly the Signature will be a couple pounds stronger. Time will tell. Spring power on a spring isn't limited to wire OD. Time will also tell which spring stands up better to the abuse of setting. Time will also tell which product appeals to the user. And... time will tell which is a more effective tool for catching vs refusal rates, and perhaps if one gets bent to crap regularly or not.

It might be kinda premature to go blow one's horn at this point. Bear in mind the preliminary stuff you and I seen back way back in in January before our wonderful Chinese dinner together and swapping ocean fishing stories!!!

I doubt that I want to build a bigger spring than the Supermagnum. But that's me, and I thought that same thought 5 years ago when I released the Magnum, so I'd say never say never.
