Maxcatch fly rods
Hi folks,
Does anyone have experience with Maxcatch Euronyph rods? thanks for answering |
They are cheap compared to other popular brands. It depends on how much use you will get and what level your Euro is at. Nice way to get into this area of the sport.

I have a 4wt,5wt,6wt and 8wt, in several models from them and have no complaints at all. I did a few reviews on some of their models and reels on my site www.peteward.com in my trad review section . now my experience is limited , as I just started casting flies in the late 50's , with greenheart rods made by my father, and progressed to bamboo, then fiberglass before discovering graphite in the 80's.
The best bang for the buck from maxcatch is the Extreme set for about $100 =- . Rod reel, line, case and more at this price can't be beat. My extreme's cast every bit as good as my Fenwick, and TFO rods at a fraction of the cost. I used to buy $50.00 lines in the 70's and 80's now I have every rod set up with weight foreward , slow sink, fast sink, and floating lines on very inexpensive maxcatch Eco reels . Their $cheap lines are just as good as the big name expensive lines that I used to buy. A good friend tried my 5wt extreme, eco reel, and $10 lines trout fishing and said it casts every bit as good as his $700 sage.with an expensive line and reel . I use a 6wt, and 8wt for walleye and pike , never a complaint. Amazon has a couple other company's selling the maxcatch name at inflated prices, shop wisely, or just shop direct from China . They also send your order free shipping, and I found them very quick and reliable. I see no reason to think the Euronymph will not be a very good rod too . Pete |
Pete do you find that the fly lines crack quickly?

Pete,
I wandered through your sire and can’t find any reviews except for food. Please point out your review of equipment. Don |

This is the review I would expect for a $20 line:
3.0 out of 5 stars Good for short term use Reviewed in Canada on January 2, 2020 Colour Name: Fly Line-Moss GreenSize : WF8F-100FTVerified Purchase Used for 3 months during salmon and steelhead season; performed fine; line cracking throughout at this time so will need to replace; for the price is fine to have to change after so little time after frequent fishing including winter |
Good starting point. I would encourage you to check out reviews on several brands, go to local shops, and chat with the guys. As you evolve in the sport and your skills develop, you may want to eventually grow into higher-end equipment. The analogy I give in my casting classes is that there are tools branded from Walmart/Canadian Tire and tools from Milwaukee and Snap-on. Only a tradesman will see the difference.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I'll ponder it some but am inclined to buy from a local fly shop.

The rod i had snapped in half on its first real hook set.

Ouch¡¡¡¡¡
|
I've used them and like them.
eight for weight they cast s well as my more expensive rods, handle fish well, and the price is right. I am not in the market for another rod but if I were I would not hesitate to buy a Maxcast outfit. Cat |
While I have never had the opportunity to cast a MaxCatch fly rod, I hope to someday meet someone that has one. I have cast many fly rods and there have been only one or two that I found horrible. From what I have read, I have to believe that MaxCatch rods will be very functional and definitely are full value. I, like many, many others have bought into the "Big Brand" marketing, but I have a few "lower end" rods that perform just as well as the high dollar ones. If I had need (and I definitely don't) for another fly rod or two, I would definitely purchase a MaxCatch, even just for the experience.

I bought an 8 1/2' 4w - so I'll put it to the test against my other rods and post the results.
