When they say Extremely Clear Optics with Great Light Transmission, they're telling you it's a bottom end scope. :D

They never say somewhat clear optics, or so-so light transmission.:)

My g/f is going to Chicago next week for 3 days... Hmmm.

:thinking-006: this form you mentioned ?

abhunter8 07-07-2015 08:09 AM

I have ordered scopes from the states in the past. You need a US export permit and a Canadian import permit. The seller (cabelas) in the states needs to be cooperative in selling the item to a Cdn resident because I believe there is a portion on the export permit they need to assist with. Then you have the hassle at the border....

It is doable but After you factor in exchange, duty, taxes and your time to complete the forms and the headaches is it really worth it to save $50 - $75.

Only time I have received a scope from the states what when I imported a used rifle. I was surprised when it came with scope and rings and bases....I wasn't complaining. I used Prophet River to do the import for me and it went very smoothly.

After the huge fine Cabelas received for exporting scopes without the proper permits, they aren't at all interested in exporting scopes any more.

that's right they really got hosed there!

i'm sure one of their competitors who offers shipping services to Canada will price match if anyone is truly interested

I might be new to this but is a scope considered a gun when crossing the boarder? Why all the hassle?

Scopes are not considered firearms, but the export of rifle scopes and certain other items from the USA is regulated. Those other items include some firearms components, as well as anmunition and reloading components.

ammunition I can understand the rest seems a little overboard. Last time i crossed the boarded they asked if I carrying any weapons or rifles.

There goes my idea of picking some stuff up from the states.

ITAR. You would be surprised what is considered "defense articles".

gun deal

Brand new CZ 527 in a 221 fireball for $587 at whitakkers, now that is a smokin deal if you love CZ 527 rifles... FS

michaelmicallef 07-07-2015 11:48 AM

I still can't understand why Cabelas can't offer Canadians a deal like that. Or at least half of that deal. I wrote Bass pro a letter once asking why they don't offer Canadians the same services they offer customers of the states. All I got is " we will consider your remarks". My interpretation of that was shut up at take your gouging like a good Canadian .

Go to IRunGuns, http://www.irunguns.com/

order from them. U.S. pricing, no import fees or other hassles. Delivered to your door here in Canada. (They don't' carry Vortex but have Redfield, Weaver and a few others in that same price range, that personally I would take over a Vortex anyhow.)

I have ordered from them a few times. Have always been very happy with the service and the goods delivered. Just be sure you understand it takes quite a while for their delivery cycle.
