Camp Wainwright bird season

Hi All
So how does it work should I go scouting at CW on the Labor Day weekend?
Where and when to show up / register, checkout, etc?

Is it a good idea to take a kid along?

Its ALWAYS a good idea to take a kid along.....heh.

Lots of sharptails in there....I'd like to go up on the hunt sometime....

Thanks!
So how's check in precedures for bird season out there?

I'm kinda woried as kids (ours is 3 years old) are also notorious to grad anything they find interesting and ask later... and in CW it could a mortair shell or something else? Never been there so sorry if my question sounds silly.

Nah dont worry about anything weird. The areas are all pretty darn safe, and any out of bounds areas are well marked. Keep him in eyesight and he'll be safe and sound....like any other hunting area really I found..

Not sure about check-in stuff for the bird season.....the big game stuff there is just a building you go to in the mornigns for breifings....

shedcrazy is the resident biologist at Camp wainwright
I think....
that ride-a-longs have to stay in the immediate company of the primary person. like a camera man for example. not sure about younguns that are nonhunters or dogs???
not sure but i would think that blaze orange will be worn too.
and if you have to attend the sermon on identifing bombs
bird season is an excellent time to do some scouting if you drew a big game tag, especially if you have never been there before.
good luck and look for sheds too, shedcrazy cant findm all!!!LOL

grouse hunt

Still lots of sheds!!!! lol

Basic rules are just like any other hunting areas...non-hunters are allowed but must be with the hunter. Kids and dogs are welcome but waivers must be signed for all non-hunters...not the dogs!!

No blaze rule for sharptails but always a good idea since there can be a lot of guys in one area.

Non-lead shot is a must (federal rule).

Must attend a safety brief....we do give them thru out the day and weekend.

Brief is at the range control building and there will be signs...as for time I thing it is either 0600 or 0700 can't rememebr but can provide that info and open until dark.....long days for us memo writers!
