Which bullet is most accurate in your gun?
 

I have been reloading for about a year and had good luck with 130 grain sierra gamekings in my 270 win for accuracy, pretty typical for me to get 1" groups +/- with them at 100yrds but not a whole lot better than 1" and sometimes a bit worse, I was happy with this as I am using a 40 year old gun and may not be the best shot out there. I have also tried some other types, hornady, prohunters, 90 grain hollow points, speer ???, and nosler ballistic tips but none have been better than the game kings.

Today I tried a ladder test of some 140 gr accubonds I loaded up and was getting the best three shot groups yet, close to 1/2", point of impact was also higher than for the game kings and this for a load that is supposed to have lower muzzle velocity. None the less I was pretty impressed with them. Has anyone else had similar results? Are the bullets higher quality or is it just luck of the draw what your gun likes?

It all depends on what your gun likes and what you will put up with. If a bullet like a ballistic tip is the best but you want to shoot a grizzly then you may go for a less accurate bullet. But you are on the right track. Shoot lots to see what the gun likes and see what they do to game you shoot and make up your mind from there. I shot just about everything and now all my guns love TSX and TTSX's. Easy for me.

What PoppaW said! Also for a treat, try cast bullets.

where would you get cast bullets for a 270? I use them in my 45/70 and they are great in it but I never really considered using them in anything else.

My 7-08AI absolutely loves the 140 TSX....which is a good thing cause I love the bullet performance on game!!

I sighted my custom 7x57 in at 200 yards with 140gr Barnes TSX, beautiful group and 2 nice dead bucks last year, one at 280 yards and the other at about 50 ft. FS

If the GameKings are working, and a 1" group is nothing to sneeze at in a sporter of any kind, use them! They kill things just fine. You could try to fine tune with different powders, but you have plenty of accuracy for out to 400 yard shot and a bullet that will work.

Once I got comfy with loading and safe pressures in my 270 I bought a chrony. That saved me a pile of wasted powder as I wouldn't be working up to max with one powder just to find out its slower than another powder. Its all a learning curve and takes years to put it all together. Good reloading books are the best help, and good people on forums don't hurt either:D

:wave:I also load Accubonds in my .300RUM 200gr,7MM 140 gr and my 30-06 165gr..I love them. They all shoot sub-moa at 100 yards..I took my elk this year with my 300RUM and the Accubond did a great job..Cant wait for them to make them in 6mm..

Hornady A-max and BTHP both give me good accuracy for punching paper.

I had a really hard time getting my rifle to shoot hunting bullets well. Gamekings, Interbonds, Interlocks really uninspiring. Someone suggested accubonds and I tried them. They shot as well as match bullets (0.5-0.75" at 100 yds). I was very impressed. Definitely overkill for deer as a non premium would perform fine but I wanted to have something that would allow me to hit a smaller target (neck) at reasonable range (turned out to be less than 50yds). They seriously did the trick. Although I probably could have used the BTHP and done the same thing.
From what I've read, they shed alot of metal on the way through which I personally don't like but man are they accurate.

Accubonds
 

My rifles love Accubonds....two -270WSM with 140gr, 300WM with 180gr, and hopefully my 338-06AI with 225gr. I was impressed with the performance at the range (under 1/2" 5 shot groups @ 100m) and on big game I traded all the TSX's I had for the 270WSM and 300WM for more Accubonds. But I will say I have 225gr TTSX's to try in my 338-06AI

Wish they made them in 6mm for my 243 (95-100gr would be nice)

For the last few hunting seasons I've been using a 270 WSM. I've only tried a few different bullets with it, but the 130 gr TSXs shot very well and have performed really well on game, so I don't see any need to experiment with others!

Man, I wish my rifle did well with super X bullets.

My 7 mm rem mag loves Barnes 160 grain x bullets in handloads in my Weatherby. My .220 swift loves nosler 55 grain ballistic tips at 3900 ft/sec in my remington vssf.

One would either get a .277 inch bullet mold or check around for cast bullet manufacturers - you'd want to get one that is gas-checked to allow for higher speeds with the right bullet lubricants.
