First loads ever.

Well the first loads are now done on the new rockchucker and here they are. They are for my brothers 7mmrm. We are no means the best shots out there but he was pretty happy with the results for the first try. The bolt was a little stiff he said on the 68 gr so looks like the 67 are the best. Might try 66.5 and 67.5. Might try and play with the length a bit yet.Started .050 from the lands. IMR 4831 120 gr ttsx ,fed brass and cci lm primers.I think we did all right for rookies, and he's got all of his eye's and fingers...bonus. The one target that looks like a shot gun is from the bullet hitting the metal grater blade that was pounded in holding the backstop. His factory loads shot about a 2'' group , best his gun ever shot he said and was grinning ear to ear. We went three ways on the chucker kit ,money well spent.http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/a...edstarget2.jpghttp://i921.photobucket.com/albums/a...edstarget1.jpghttp://i921.photobucket.com/albums/a...edstarget3.jpg

Not a fan of CCI? Do primers make a big diffence?

sometimes you will notice a difference. i cut groups in half on 3 different 7-08's by going to wlr primers. they seem more consistant for some reason. i'll take a beating for this, but the cci's work awesome in my 44mag, s&w 629, and use the same load in my marlin, lee.

I also switched from Federals to WLR & WLRM about 6 years ago...with my 6.5x55...instead of 3/4 to 1 inch @ 100 yds, most times it'll cloverleaf em now..esp if I ain't shakin:D

I'll take CCI over Federal any day.

Looks like your off to a good start. Don't be afraid to try other powders like h4831,imr 4350, h4350 and rl22 and 19. Sometimes different powders will shrink your groups quite a bit. I find powders and seating depht to be the biggest difference makers , once you have a bullet that works . For the record i use cci 250 mag primers in all my loads and they have always worked very well. I have also used federal 215 with no issues.
