Trout lures

I've been getting more into fishing without bait lately... what's your favourite lure for rainbows? To make it a bit more fun, pick only one.

I'm partial to a black fury myself

If I had to pick just one, I'd pick an F5 Rapala in the rainbow trout pattern.

Other favourites include:

- Rapala Countdowns in CD5-7

- Len Thompsons

- Mepps spinners

- Mepps Syclops

- Small lipless cranks

- Flatfish

Silver Panther Martin is my favorite. Been using them for the last 40 years.

Various kinds of Mepps spinners or

Deadly Dicks.

for a lure I like the orange / white small size of Len Thompson spoon. I like the mepps and panther martin spinners too.

For trout, flies are hard to beat and you can easily fish with flies on a spinning rod if you want to add an adjust-a-bubble type of float for weight while casting. Pick up one of those and some of the basic trout flies to add to your tackle box for a bit more options. Basic nymphs would be pheasant tail nymphs, prince nymph, or a gold ribbed hare's ear. For dries pick up a few adams, elk hair caddis, and stimulators.

Edit: if I could only choose one, it would be a black wooly bugger / leach type of fly

They are "deadly". The action is like a spoon, side to side wobble. They are a fav in the west arm of Kootenay lake for rainbows and kokanee.

If I could only have 1 hook it would be a Len Tompson 5 of diamonds,it catches everything most of the time.
