Stay in Medicine Hat, not far to the base and you have plenty of options for hotels and restaurants.

Should be a good opportunity for success, hope you smoke a dandy!

Suffield Elk Hunt

it is a awesome place to hunt me and my dad went there for 1 day and came back with 2 cows it is full of elk and deer but you cant shoot the deer there which really sucks because there is big bucks:angry3:

THats cause it’s a cull not a actual hunt they want the elk gone

I heard the travel lodge in Medicine Hat has undergone quite a bit of renovations this year. might be worth a check. rooms maybe
$70 - 100 a night? subway, a&w, petro Canada with a restaurant and a McD's are all close by. A Tims is located in Redcliff.

What priority got you this tag ?

patcha 10-15-2017 09:20 PM

Priority 8.wanted to do 1st rifle outside base but didn't want to wait another 5 to 6 years.

DiabeticKripple 10-15-2017 10:21 PM

I stayed at the Hampton I’m Med Hat by the Boston pizza. Brand new hotel and was super nice. I’d recommend it.

reddeerhunter 10-16-2017 02:58 AM

Stay in Hat, hope you get a slob with a priority 8. Aim small.

Anybody know if there's a gas station that sells diesel near the base or is the nearest in medicine hat?I was looking at the map on ihunter,I didn't realize how big sufield is.

lone wolf 10-17-2017 08:55 PM

Several places in Redcliff for sure, easy 15 minute drive out to Suffield. There is a Canex store in Ralston however I am not sure if they have diesel or not .... and yes, it is a BIG piece of real estate. Before they opened the NWA it wasn't uncommon to put on 300k in a day looking for the herds. Some years they came easy, some years it took some effort.

Good luck on your hunt. Being the first one of teh year on the base, expect lots of FN to show up to the party.

FYI,
I was a priority 6, applied myself and was not drawn, hoping for next year,
Oh well, have to settle for a bison at Zama I guess, :)
Good luck patcha.

patcha 10-17-2017 09:09 PM

Is that your first time hunting bison? It a pretty cool hunt.ive been lucky enough to pull the tag in 2009 and àgain in 2015.had a blast both times.hope you drop a good one.

greywolf 10-20-2017 05:24 AM

7 of us did a 13 day bush camp bison hunt east of High Level towards Wood Buffalo Park in 2009 and the Zama area in 2013, 3 of us with 2 tags in 2013.
I will be going up this year with a buddy who has been drawn for the second time and was successful in 2013. This time its my turn to squeeze the trigger!!:sHa_shakeshout:

there was no diesel at the cannex on the base last year
( they are renovating the pumps at the cannex so they may be adding diesel )

so make sure to fill up its easy to put a couple hundred km on on the base in a day ( north east corner is 70 + km as the crow flies from range contol )

patcha 10-20-2017 07:18 PM

So I guess the other questions I had were to guys that have previously hunted the base before. Is there a lot of roads / trails through out the base and are the elk usually spread out or concentrated in a few areas.im just wondering if it's like camp wainwright where it's a mad rush of vehicles first thing in the morning. Either way,I'm getting pretty stoked.

DiabeticKripple 10-20-2017 07:25 PM

theres lots of roads. its probably best to get into the NWA and go for a hike to find the herds.
