Lure X

I'm curious...and bored. I can understand why a person would not want their favorite locations or fishing holes revealed on here, hence the many lake Xs around this fine province. But I've also noticed some people (not most) don't even like to speak of their favorite go-to lures or the "hook that caught the big one" also. Not complaining here at all, just curious as to WHY the big secrets on lures? Seems odd to me.
Cheers n GL all!

hmmm never noticed that
early im religiously jigging a Salmo Chubby Darter
later in the season its a Acme Phoebe with a tag to a jumbo minnow
just painted up some PK lures and i have alot of confidence they will work well

In the winter Im usually using Smelt "X" or Herring "X" altho this winter Ive caught pike on small minnows, worms and flies as well.

HarHar, your a funny man Wayne:) I'm a big fan of Smelt X myself.

Good luck on the new lures Darter, hope they work for ya.

I must say those of you that Do make your own gear, be it flies, rods, jigs, whatever, must make wrangling fish that much more rewarding knowing u created successful gear. Hats off for sure:)
Cheers!

I was trying out one of the pike flies Dark Aisling made for me, had a pike come in and hit it so fast I almost fell over backwards. Compared to the rest of the ones I caught that day that were slow as molasses in ...the last couple days.

Well I'm rootin" for ya to find that monster 30#er. Imagine catching her on a homemade lure...priceless. Perhaps DA is on to something...
Cheers.

I'd like to move into the elite group of eye fisherman that dont use bait at all, yet still catch big eyes.
Tired of being the guy with the coffee can in the movie 'a river runs through it'

I hear ya on that one. Depends on my mood on any particular day though. Some days I like to experiment quite a bit, most days however, I'm a bait guy.
If it aint broken, hard to fix it I say. I dunno, always feel much more confident when I chuck some bait on. But that's just me.
Also depends on where and when I'm fishn too. Pike for example, I have more success in the summer without bait, winter however(still relatively new to the hardwater) I've yet to hook into one without bait.

Congrats on the first ice White Wayne, next time Gadget...next time!

early in the season isnt a issue.
the whole bait process is way too much work...caring for minnows is as much work as prepping dewwies and leaches for a open water trip
