Weird M44 (one of a kind?)

I can't find anything like it. It's a 1936 M44, the tang matches the barrel shank in being a 1936 Izhevsk meaning this must have been cut down from a M91/30? Rear sight is not typical of M44s I believe either and it has several "02" markings which means Hungary but I can't find ANYTHING on them doing this, to my understanding they made their own M44s. The butt plate, trigger guard, nose cap and stock are all Hungarian marked. There is also a yellow band painted around the stock. If you have any insight let me know, thanks for looking.

Something not right, that rifle, m44, came out in 1944. Rebarreled? Maybe you need me to take it off your hands.

Maybe started off as a M38 carbine. They are similar. Some one changed out stocks and added the side bayo. M38 have been fitted with M44 stocks in refurbished ones.

Gunboards forum has a really good Mosin sub forum. Try there

Not an M38 and never was for sure, it's 1936 dated and the M38 came out in 1938. The bayonet mount and front sight is one piece and they are pressed on to my knowledge it is not an easy swap, also the stock, buttplate, bottom metal, and end cap are all Hungarian marked.

Likely a 91/30 converted to 44 at some point. Most of the MN's in Vietnam and the Middle East were marked 2 Hungarian [communist aid pkg]
