odd question

anyone know where to buy briefcase combination locks.....the spring loaded kind that release when you put in the combination and push the button. i built a take down box for a shotgun and i would like to put those kinds of locks on it...so i can't lose the key!! haha. i found a place here in lethbridge that sells them..but they are 20 bucks each..seems a bit pricey to me.....or am i wrong?? thanks guys

No idea bud but I was curious as to what you ended up making the cabinet out of?

TheClash 04-28-2008 10:38 AM

i went with ash....as it was pretty inexpensive...and i must say it looks amazing. the guys at black forest were incredible. we searched and found a nice piece that had a ton of figure in it...will look great once i stain it and oil it. i looked at some gorgeous black walnut...but it would have been over 100 bucks just for the lumber alone.....

KyleM 04-28-2008 10:41 AM

Yeah, like I was saying, Walnut is tough to work with and $$$$.

Id love to see some pictures of the thing when your done.

If the wood has lots of funk to it, maybe your better off not staining?
There are some products to exaggerate the grain and not alter the colour of the wood.

TheClash 04-28-2008 11:45 AM

i want to color it a little bit...as the wood is really light right now....i really do not like the light natural look..just me i guess....so it will get a nice mahogany stain and then a rubbed oil finish. i will post some pics when i am done.

lee valley tools

Clash, I'm sure you're aware of them, but there is a Lee Valley in Calgary, just off Macleod and Glenmore I think (hey, gimme a break, I'm from Edmonton).

They also have a website. www.leevalley.com

Maybe find an old briefcase or something at value village??

TheClash 04-28-2008 12:17 PM

ya i have looked at lee valley as well...they are still pretty pricey..i am going to check out value village for some....but can they be re-programmed??

rugatika 04-28-2008 12:49 PM

some can

I know some of them can be reprogrammed, but not sure of the procedure.

By the way, Clash, it'd be nice to see some pics of that when you get a chance. After the awesome job you did with those knives, you could have a booming custom outdoorsman business.

honda450 04-28-2008 12:54 PM

Yeah Clash send me a PM when ya got my knife ready.:tongue2:
