trolling plate question
 

I just bought a 2015 Crestline with a 60 hp E-Tec. The slowest I can get is 2.4 mph. Just looking for thoughts about how a trolling plate would work and what is the best make/brand to purchase.

I looked at a lot of options when I was shopping for a trolling plate. I'm running a 17ft legend with 60hp merc fourstroke. Went with a Happy Troller and couldn't be happier. Slowed boat speed from around 2.5 down to less than 1 mph. Boat control hasn't been an issue. Trolling plate has been rock solid.

I've got a 18" Lund SSV Alaskan with an 60hp Envinrude E-Tec.
It's got a 'Hydro Troll' trolling plate installed.
No problems trolling a F8 flatfish.
Made a huge difference , both in low speed and hoping up on plane.

We ran one on our old 100 and 150. Trolled awesomely. Had to reinforce it on the 150 , a bit too much torque bends the aluminum. Way easier than drift sock or a pail.

Dad had one on a 23' Century with a 235 hp I/O. It worked very well. It would slow the boat down to a dead crawl.

I had one on my 16' Glascon with 75HP motor. Worked great! Trolled slow enough for Lakers and Rainbows.
Also really help getting me to plane quickly.

ive got a happy troller on my 16.5 ft. legend with 75 hp merc and it will get me down to 1 mph.

I have an easy troller with hydrofoil fins. Works like a charm to get my 4.3 L MerCruiser down to less than 1 mph. Makes a guy sad to drill holes in your anti-cavitation plate but my trolling plate is there to stay so not too big of a deal. Make sure you're good with that before buying one. A drift sock can also do the same thing but just not as well Controlled

I have a 16'4" Crestliner with a 40 hp Mercury that trolls about 2.2-2.5 mph.with my Happy Troller I can slow done to the magic bottom bouncing speeds of .9-1.3mph for the perfect Walleye speed.The plate works great until the wind picks up & then you might have to adjust as it gets hard to steer. But a great addition none the less.
