I think you hit it on the head as he was at an Esso Garage. You actually come over a hill and if you don't brake coasting will get you a fine as the sign changes part way down the hill.

Speeding Ticket

An older lady gets pulled over for speeding...

Older Woman: Is there a problem, Officer?

Officer: Ma'am, you were speeding.

Older Woman: Oh, I see.

Officer: Can I see your license please?

Older Woman: I'd give it to you but I don't have one.

Officer: Don't have one?

Older Woman: Lost it, 4 years ago for drunk driving.

Officer: I see...Can I see your vehicle registration papers please.

Older Woman: I can't do that.

Officer: Why not?

Older Woman: I stole this car.

Officer: Stole it?

Older Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner.

Officer: You what?

Older Woman: His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk if you want to see

The Officer looks at the woman and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun.

Officer 2: Ma'am, could you step out of your vehicle please! The woman steps out of her vehicle.

Older woman: Is there a problem sir?

Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner.

Older Woman: Murdered the owner?

Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please.

The woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk.

Officer 2: Is this your car, ma'am?

Older Woman: Yes, here are the registration papers.

The officer is quite stunned.

Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license.

The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer.

The officer examines the license. He looks quite puzzled.

Officer 2: Thank you ma'am, one of my officers told me you didn't have a license, that you stole this car, and that you murdered and hacked up the owner.

Older Woman: Bet the liar told you I was speeding, too.

Anyone who thinks photo radar is not a cash cow must have bumped there heads one to many times. If drinking and smoking are so bad why doesn;t the government make some more laws up to take these rights away from us to protect us from ourselves?????????? Why, because they make a *****load of money.

harv3589 01-30-2008 08:34 PM

Ok, giving that it is such a "cash cow" why do people speed knowing it is there?

The government wouldn't make a cent off of it if people followed the speed limit...Right????

slipbobber 01-30-2008 08:54 PM

Why do people drink and drive? Why do people smoke when they know its not good for you? Why is there 4 people murdered in Calgary already this month? You seam to know all the answers so lets hear them.

A lot of the photo radars I see or cops with radar are in really bad places for drivers. Someone mentioned speed limits changing halfway down the hill...cops like to sit there. I've noticed a lot of cops like to sit around offramps and give people tickets who are just coming off a highway or major road. I don't know if anyone drives on Springbank Road coming out of Calgary? There's a playground zone there. Goes from 80km/h to 30km/h in the blink of an eye. For those who know the road it's easy to slow down, but for those who don't, the cops like to sit there. I can't imagine someone slamming on the brakes in the middle of the highway because a 30km/h popped up, but cops do sit there and watch for any one who doesn't.

I am not trying to condone speeding, and I'll admit to every ticket where I was actually wrong. But I do think that radars are typically set up in places that aren't always fair to drivers.

Another example is where my boyfriend lives. They recently built a school there and before the school opened, they put a stop sign at the t-intersction where there used to be a yield sign. Most people coming out of that neighbourhood knew there was a yield sign and so went right through it. They had a police officer sitting there writting ticket after ticket. Why not just put one of those big, bright, temporary signs that say NEW STOP SIGN there? If after a couple days people are still running it, THEN give them tickets. I know it's no excuse to run a stop sign, but people are creatures of habit.

Make it 5 murders now...I don't know all the answers, I do know people like to make excuses when they are caught doing something wrong...

You know when driving and not noticing things like signs etc. you need to learn how to drive defensively.

I was one of the worst road raging, speeding drivers out there. I now teach defensive driving  and you know whose habits changed the most... Mine!....:o

if you are scanning properly and adjusting your speed you won't miss the signs....

If you are not.... you won't miss the kid!.........

I am very familiar with Springbank Road!.... and lots of people drive it way too fast with all the blind driveways!.....

As far as I am concerned if you are in an accident and you are at fault and you own a radar detector your insurance should be cancelled because to me it shows intent to break the law.

Driving is a serious business..... and most people miss what they should see because of in cab distractions and improper driving habits!....

Well, in that case, it teaches the owner not to lend his vehicle to that speeding moron LOL

I don't mind photo radar in a way... I'd rather get that then an actual hand delivered ticket with demerits as well. The one area I DO think it falls down is that it doesn't stop the speeding right as it happens. A speeder can roar through a phot radar site and then cause an accident a mile later. With regular radar you catch them in the act and slow them down right then. Mind you, you catch and send a message to way less people that way, so it's a trade-off.

What a bunch of whineing, sniveling candy ass's!
Take some responsibility for your actions, you can't get a ticket if you slow down and drive at the posted speed limit!
As for the 1 or 2 kl over tickets, I call bull****, and liar!
Don't worry about slowing down in them 30 zones.........there only there to protect someone else's kids. Your kids are safe playing in some other playground / school zone that your not speeding in right?
Take notice of the signage, drive accordingly.........
Written by one who hands out the speeding tickets, and then comes and cuts you out of the vehicle that you were driving to fast to control..........

slipbobber 02-02-2008 09:00 AM

your the candy ass

You sound like one of the power hungry cops I was talking about. It is a FACT about the ticket for going 1km over the speed limit. You weren't there. Although you think you know every thing you don't. If you don't like cutting people out at accident scenes get a new job and stop bitching. Go hide behind a tree with you radar gun while gangs are running the streets in most of the cities accross Canada.
