Cicada nymphs?

👋
I've been reading about the big Cicada brood x thats gonna boom this year in the east. In AB we have the Okanaganis Cicada that emerge every 3-5 years. Wondering if anybodys ever had the luck to fish while they're out? And if you've got any suggested Fly's ?

Just type in cicada fly patterns on the web and you will get lots of patterns.
Also you will not see any nymphs only adults.

I used to have a metal lure that imitated a cicada. That was in the 1980's. worked like a charm on the Red Deer River.

Cicada

I have adult dry patterns which I used in NZ but in 50 years plus of fishing flies in Alberta I have yet to see an Adult here ...... if there are any numbers you will hear them a long time before you see them as they make a loud racket ..... personally I would stick with adult stonefly patterns which are already out and about on the streams

The only place I've seen cicada flies being used , is on he Columbia River near Castlegar BC.
