Cooey model 39 extractor install help please

Can anyone give me some advice on this? I picked up a new extractor for this old cooey, but am a bit confused as to how to properly install it into the bolt. It looks to me like it would need to be bent a bit in order for it to get seated properly into the hole near the handle and the side of the bolt. Should I just bend it until I can slip it in?

Start it in the back hole and compress it with a punch or something and work it in there, you have to bend it without "bending" it is it's own spring. A little grease may help wiggle it in there. It looks like the extracor slot is a little burred up, you may have to clean that up first. Make sure it fits before you try jamming it in there.

Ahhh. That makes perfect sense. Thanks SkytopBrewster!

Once it's in the back hole you could push in on the back of the spring with a punch and gently pry the front up with a set on needle nose pliers, use just enough force to clear the front of the bolt. If you bend it out of shape you are going to have extraction problems or worse, snap it off. Don't try to hat it upor you will ruin the spring temper. You need 3 hands for some of these things, a vice would help. Swearing at these kind of things usually helps

Any chance you can tell me where you got yours?

I need an extractor for a model 39 myself.

If it's not too much trouble, please PM me.

Thanks!
