Cold Lake 2022/23 Hard Water Season.

https://coldlake.com/en/live/live-webcams.aspx

-23C this morning and hopefully the start of making good safe ice.
Smaller lakes around will freeze up earlier but the true gem of a lake will take some time.

Check the webcams for updates on the lake and I will post info too.

Got a feeling it’s gonna be a good ice season.

What’s the cheapest options for a couple Calgarians to fish Cold lake for a few days this winter. Killing fish isn’t a necessity. Catching would be nice.

Guide and accommodation.

58thecat 11-11-2022 12:52 PM

Two guides that come to mind would be Kim Grey

https://www.travelalberta.com/ca/lis...nd-more-18851/

and Matt Weaver.

https://weaversbentrods.com/

They can put you on the fish in no time and provide information regarding accommodation to fit your needs.

Two of the best!

Agreed.... Those boys are two of the best . Don't forget Scott Bulat (Willowtrail). He's right up there with the boys. He is one hell of a guide and such a nice person. Mat and Kim are cut from the same cloth Scott is. The three are actually good friends.

I am going buggy for this season, have a rematch with a laker who broke my reel.... and if I don't have luck in my normal spots, I will just look for 58 so I can check out his sweet gear, and use my below average mentalist abilities to reveal his best fishing spots :sHa_shakeshout:

Last year I was easy to find, I was either digging out my truck or my quad but this year finding me will be difficult.....one word....Scandic.:)

Anyone wanting to head out on the lake and are unsure etc just pm me, met many members last year out in the ice, had a few phone calls etc and all in all just had a blast.

Thank you 58th as I always enjoy your postings and updates on Cold Lake. Have spent many enjoyable days on the water and this year changed it up a bit as life has been challenging. Met up with Mat Weaver for a couple of days in August and had a great trip. Found the experience to be first class as he has great gear and a strong knowledge of the lake. He is a gentleman and easy to spend time with. Might see you on the ice this year as we hope to to try the hard water side. Best of luck.

I was thinking about stopping in at the lake on my way back from northern Saskatchewan to fish Cold Lake for a day on December 5th last week when it was cold. But with the current weather, and looking at last year's thread, it looks like I'd be a couple of weeks too early. I do have the last half of December off, so hopefully I can make it up then. I'd like to experience the first ice bite.

View from French bay boat launch looking out into French bay.
Slowly creeping out to the bigger water but no way near fishable (safely) as we had freezing temps mixed with snow.
We need a few weeks of -20 or colder.

Boat Launch Open?

Last year we were still boating on December 4th. I checked the satellite yesterday and the provincial park boat launch still looked clear. Can anybody confirm if a boat could launch this week? Thanks all

Cold lake boat launch

Can anybody update boat launch status at cold lake? Provincial park?

Thanks

Here's a link to the live cam Youtube channel, looks like the videos aren't available on the city website right now.

Hope that helps!

Provincial Boat launch is wide open and the trout were biting. Seemed to be everywhere we looked. Best action was jigging in about 50 ft water. But they also hit the troll right under the surface with a husky jerk.

That is typical of first safe ice too.

Don’t have to go deep at all.

Good to see you got out.

Any pics?

Forecast looks promising…. I made a few prototype jigs I can’t wait to try out! Any predictions on safe ice to walk out from the marina this year? I was out Dec 28 last year on foot but, would love to get out before Xmas.

Christmas day for the marina I'd guess. I've hit French bay on a quad every new years day for the last few years and i expect this year will be no different!

Steam rising up off the lake looking out towards French bay from the boat launch, about 400 yards of ice, slowly creeping out into the bay.

Provincial park boat launch has a bit of ice, centre bay around shore has just slush forming.

Marina is iced in but that’s about it for that open water area.

-20 out and this goose still hanging out, crazy bugger!
