Talking moose believes there is basically 2 kinds of hunts. Glassing the beaches and hillsides from boat, and trekking inland aways over some rugged terrain and hilly country. The latter being more physically demanding. Each hunt is different so you never know what your getting yourself into. Depending where the bear is spotted, they all have potential to be gruelling.

Watch The Hunt on History channel i think it is. All Kodiak hunting dramatized for TV of course

I'll be able to give you a pretty good description at the end of next month. I'm headed there for blacktail hunt mid-November :sHa_shakeshout:

I've got a few friends in the States that booked a trip to Kodiak for a 3 deer hunt each. The hunt is assisted but not guided. I think they call themselves a transporter or something like that.

We stay on a 68' boat and eat crab/prawns/halibut that they catch daily. They drop us off on the island and pick us up at the end of the day.

Since I'm an "alien" I won't be pulling any triggers but I'll bring my glass and pack to help out a buddy. I guided him when he completed his North American 29. He needs to upgrade his blacktail as it is his only deer that didn't meet B&C. I think he thinks I'm good luck :)

After watching a few episodes of "The Hunt".....I'll be keeping my eyes open for those big brown things they have running around there tho.

Hopefully they have a bunch of snow and the deer will be down on the beaches as opposed to having a bunch of "up" to do. Either way it will be a fantastic time I think.

Just saw some shots on Hardcore Waterfowler of a fella hunting birds up there. Struck me as a place I would not have thought of off the bat, to do that. Harlequin would make a nice mount though.
