Baby Weasel ‘Hunting’ World’s Most Oblivious Squirrel...
So this just happened. Bugger actually jumped right up there before I started the video. Never a dull moment in the Treehouse. :)

Cool video! My cat killed a juvenile weasel not too long ago. I must compliment your squirrel, it is quite nice.

That is priceless... thanks for sharing that TreeGuy! I would put that in my top 5 funny animal vids of all time.... I love watching the cat!

I have watched many weasels while hunting bears over baits, never a dull moment!
Isn't it fascinating how they dart around? Great video! |
That looks like a least weasel.
|
Pretty sure it’s an adult least weasel. Short tail weasels have a black tip on tail. That one doesn’t look like it does.
|
So Im curious... will a weasel that size take on a squirrel 3 times its size? I know they will kill other larger animals ie chickens, but I would have thought a larger squirrel would be a more even match.

I think you’re right Moose. (Pretty sure it was a youngun though) Definitely a first for for me. Pretty lucky to see, let alone document! Glad y’all like it. :) Tree |
Oh yeah. The poor cat is exhausted. LOL

I just noticed your caption "How to Torture the cat" too funny and ain't that the truth hehe
Your cat was probably thinking, "Let me out and I will kill both of them" lol |

The kitty sure seems to be enjoying his / her front row seat with a view of the shenanigans going outside lol,

I'm not sure why, but I have an urge to look up some old Foghorn Leghorn cartoons.

We live next to Fish Creek Park on the Bow River. We have a mouse population explosion every 6 months or so...then a short tail weasel comes by and 'poof'...no more mice.
What's fun is the weasel seems almost oblivious to our presence. Like a mink, will almost walk over my foot. Anyways, weasels are the best mice control professionals. We don't want to use traps in the garden as we get red squirrels, bobcats, skunks, raccoons and a host of birds...unlike mice, they are all welcome. |
