Fish Creek, Calgary
One of my favourite places to toss a line in Calgary is Fish Creek, in Fish Creek Park. I just wanted to see if I could get a discussion going about this fun little creek. I know I've personally had a lot of success there with brown trout and rainbow trout. However, a lot of people that I've talked to didn't even know about the fun fishing to be had there. I seems the Bow gets all the attention, but I'd say Fish Creek is definitely worth checking out.

Caught mega browns there as a kid on worms.....
Has Fish Creek changed over the years? I grew up in Woodbine and spent hours down there on the trails with my bike. At that time in the area I was at there was at most 6 inches of water in most spots. I never tried fishing it once, maybe I should have!!

WOW, a trip down memory lane here, we used to fish the fish in the early 70"s to, some really good fish were taken out of there, big rainbow's could be found as well as the brown's, I would be curious to know if there still catching Bow's in there, we had some really good Keg party's on the weekend's as well.......:lol::D

Always thought it was WAY too tiny to have anything in it... and also heard it's been pretty flushed out from the past couple floods. About where is there good fishing?
REALLY,where can you fish there...i would love to see that i live in lake bonavista
The floods actually helped out Fish Creek by blowing out many of the beaver dams. I had the opportunity to electrofish sections of it after the floods and Rainbows were once again utilizing it for spawning. If the beavers haven't plugged alot of it up again there should definately be some decent fishing.

I mostly fish near the Bow in Fish Creek Park. Any deeper pools and runs usually hold trout. I like fishing around the bridges. It's definitley possible to catch Rainbows as well as Browns.
I happened to see lots of 12" Rainbows late last summer feeding in the deeper pools down stream of Macleod Tr. The wife was down there taking pictures for here art and she was able to take a few of the Rainbows in the water.
Dodger. |
We used to sit up on the rock at the icecaves and dangle worms, caught lots of browns 20 inches and up, one time 27, they tasted great out of that creek in the spring! Not so many rainbows though.
wow i am blown away with that...when ever someone is going down i would like to tag along....that would be cool even if it were just to see them
Yeah, Buck Krazy, I'm guessing you're talking about that huge boulder in the creek in Fish Creek Park. I've caught a few nice browns from the pool upstream of it. Lots of action, lots of fun.
im going to have to walk that creek just to see!
I live in Deer Run and I was clueless that there was good fishing so close. : (

Didn't used to be closed bud! Walk the creek, lots of holes that still hold fish in the summer months.
It has had a spring closure for as long as I can remember. I 'm not saying it doesn't hold any fish in the summer, it does. Just not very many, and not really worth your time when the bow is right there.
Hey, I've fished this creek far into the summer, and I've always had success. Maybe the trout aren't always that big, but they're still a lot of fun. I find that Fish Creek offers a calmer, more intimate experience than the Bow often does. But if small creeks aren't your thing, then that's up to you!
even if i couldnt fish it would love to take the kids down to see them spawn,i remember going to watch the salmon run back home and it used to be fun,i know there wouldnt be a million rainbows there but it still would be a good experiance for them.....
