Is there anyone doing a replacement drop in bottom metal or do they all require inletting ?

This has the factor rem magazine and it's loose and rattles and the last round doesn't feed properly. It was a buddies gun and I'm just trying to fix it up?

If in letting is required. What is the most economical/quality option for a sps

Could you be more specific regarding what is rattling? I presume the unit consists of a trigger guard with a hinged floorplate with a spring/follower attached, and an internal box magazine? When disassembled and positioned with the magazine cut-out facing up, squeeze the box magazine together (at the back end) and fit it into the magazine well in the action. Sit the stock in place without knocking the magazine box out of position. Set the bottom metal in place, making sure it sits flat in the stock and that the “lip” on the underside fits on the outside of the magazine box. Lightly tighten each guard screw, then torque to about 45 inch pounds (or a tickle less). Open the hinge plate and check to see there is abit of (forward-rear) movement of the internal box magazine...this is normal, as it should not be restricted by compression.

If the unit is an original detached magazine model, it does require inletting on the sides to gain clearance for the release tabs. A new replacement probably costs 50% of the original cost of the SPS.

DM is detachable magazine. The factory Remington detachable magazines sometimes rattle due to sloppy tolerances.

The original should not rattle with a cartridge in the magazine?

Some of them rattle like a baby's toy.

Several years ago, I had a McMillan inletted to accept the Remington DM and bottom metal, and it didn'y rattle because the magazine required a very slight force to snap into place. A person could bed the bottom metal to take out some of the slop, but you need to be careful when inserting a magazine to make sure that it latches into place properly

I just was playing with the rifle over my lunch break here deer hunting for the week. We are 4/5 and have this evening and tomorrow morning to go before we pack up and head home Saturday.

It's the bottom round that is the problem. All the top 3 go in and feed perfectly.

Sometimes the bottom round pops out of the lips prematurely and then doesn't feed into the chamber. The other problem is some times the bolt doesnt push on the rim, the cartridge is too low... and sometimes it works correctly.

I will check out the wyatt.

I think I may have found the problem. I think it's the magazine... there is a lot of slop in the follower and I don't think it always rises evenly. With it being a double stack... the 1st cartridge goes on the right hand side and follower gets pushed down more than it should on that side.

On one I had the bolt was not always catching. I had to carefully pry the top lip outward so the cartridge would sit a bit higher. Since then no problems grabbing a shell. The rattle thing could be a bad mag.
