Center fire rifle scope on a .22LR
Is the 100 yard parrelex (spelling) really noticeable when one of those scope are placed on a .22. It’s actually hard to find a good scope with a 50 yard parrelex ( again spelling) Does it really make a difference?

We ran a VX1 on a 10/22 for a few years no problem. 3000 gophers can’t be wrong.
|
Those are the scopes that I use
I took the scopes off of my Savage Axis rifles (they aren't very good for long range) and put one on my Ruger .22 and it works great.
|
I have the Vortex Crossfire II 2-7X32 Rim fire. It is an excellent .22 rifle scope that has a parallax setting of 50 yards!
I have seen them at Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops before. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/...ex-moa-reticle |
I don't use rimfire specific scopes on any of my rifles, but the scopes on my rimfires all have adjustable parallax. If you use low powered scopes, parallax is usually not an issue.
|
I use a Leupold VX I 2-7 in my 77/22 & I find it works great. Zeroed it at 50 yrds.
|
You need to pay attention when purchasing an AO scope for Rimfire use with best results always with those capable of focus under 50M.
|
If you have constant cheek weld, it doesn't make a difference. If you want to check, put your gun in a stand and look at a target. Move your head around and see how much it moves. It definitely will but if you are consistent with your cheek weld, then you will not have a problem.

I run a 6-18x40 BSA Sweet (whatever) on my CZ 452 American. The adjustable objective serves its self well.
Worried about parralax, get a scope with parralax adjustment. |

There are "rimfire-specific" scopes with 50 yard parallax settings (Vortex, Leupold, Bushnell..probably others) but personally, for rimfires, I use scopes with adjustable objectives that can focus up close if/when req. I'd have no hesitation using a "Centerfire" scope either but again, I'd want it with AO or side focus provided the latter could work at distances less than 50 yards.
On the first 22 I ever owned, I did (unknowingly) use a "centerfire" 3-9X scope and realized (trial and error) that it just seemed to work better when dialed-down to 3X-4X. lol Looking back now, I think the parallax issues were just less noticeable at lower magnifications. So yes, they CAN work...but really aren't the best tools for the job. |

I don't have much experience with a centerfire scope on a .22 but I had a older 2x Leupold m8 on my 452 in the beginning and it shot like this at 50m
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...efdb1eed2f.jpg I've never felt the urge to over scope a rifle. I don't need to see the rings of Saturn through it plus I feel they wreck the balance. Now my CZ wears a 4x28 Leupold rimfire scope and I find it a perfect fit for a .22 |

https://s10.postimg.org/im8lo4ffd/parallax_error.jpg I've said it before, but if a person is wanting a real nice rimfire scope that is smaller in size and has AO, check out the Weaver Rimfire Classic RV9 |
A good friend was taking advantage of todays fair weather and his trip to the range included my 77/22 Mag Ruger that I recently mounted a Leuplod Vari X 2 with 4-12 magnification and an adjustable parallax feature. Wish I could have gone with him but am still battling this damned flu bug. Long story short was that it turned out to be a grand combination for precise focus at the 100 yard mark, which is what I wanted. Thanks Ian. All the best to AO members in 2018, D.H.

On my volquartsen 10/22 I have a weaver rimfire classic. Great little scope. Nikon’s prostaff bdc 150 is another good rimfire scope. On my gopher 22 I have a leupold 2-7x33 rimfire fine duplex. This is a very nice scope.

This 4 power Bushnell works great
Rem 597 semi 22LR with the 30 magazine my gun likes American Eagle 38gr for hunting David:) |
I've never had anything but fine shooting with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 on my Ruger 10/22...with the Volquartsen trigger on it I'm comfy shooting sod rats out to 100, sometimes 125 yards.

I have a old fixed 4x weaver on my Winchester 9422M. I can hit small spinner plates at 100 yards no problem.
|
Any scope with a removable objective ring can be reset parallax free at any range you want. Just turn the objective lens.Takes five minutes. Leopold will also do this on their scopes.
|
Never found it to be an issue

I ended up going with a 6x18x40 AO for a rimfire
|
Im running a older vari x 2-7 on my rimfire - I simply sent it to korth and had them set it for 50. I think it cost $35 to change.

ALL my .22,.17 hmr,.17 hornet,.204,.222, are all running center fire scopes...WHY you may ask....cause I spend hours behind the guns in the gopher fields and my eye balls are not sucked out of my head by the end of a good days shoot.
Why spend thousands of dollars on a "hunting" scope for a big game rifle that you MAY fire a hundred rounds or so a year and buy a $29 dollar scope and put it on a rifle that your going to fire Thousands of rounds ???? Makes no sense to me. |
Short range shooting with a .22 (most gopher-type work) requires a change in parallax setting from 100 yds. Can't say it applies to everybody, but I just can't focus at 25 yds. with a 100 yd. parallax scope. One of my .22s has a 2.5-10X36 Bushnell with AO, the other has a 2-7X32 Nikon P Rimfire with 50 yd. parallax. My 17 HMR has a 4-12 X40 P Rimfire scope with 75 yd. parallax. Even that is fuzzy at 25 yds. (to me). On lower magnification, maybe not so much.

Try shooting that 3-9x40mm Center Fire Rifle scope at a paper target at 10 yards and see how well you do.
Clipped and paste from the following web site :'' HOW CRITICAL IS PARALLAX? - For pinpoint aiming purposes, parallax error is most critical at under 100 yard distances. Rimfire and air rifles absolutely need adjustable parallax due to shooting under 100 yds. On the other hand, big game scopes are set to be parallax error free at 100 yards. At under 100 yards, BIG game are large enough that parallax won’t throw you too far off your aiming point. And beyond 100 yards, the error is simply less for the difference in distance.'' http://www.eabco.com/Reports/report01.html Got a Leupold laying on the Gun Safe shelf look up how to adjust it for 50m parallax or go to Rimfire Central and do some reading there. Lots of information available. Rob |
I am not shooting paper for score and so my little furry target is slightly out of focus when he dies? who cares?
