100 grain bullets for 25-06... Enough for Deer?
 

Hi all,

I have been doing a little research on the internet and see that quite a few people say they use 100 gr. bullets for deer in their 25-06's. I have been shooting 117's, but was considering switching to the 100's for the flatter trajectory.

Just wondering if anybody has experience with 100 grain bullets in their 25-06.

100 gr TSX
 

54.5 gr RL22, 3450 fps, absolutely flattens them. I have shot 4 deer since using these, farthest went 10 yards.

What kind of distances do you shoot with that load? Been wanting to get into reloading, maybe this'll be a good excuse...

I'm pretty sure my barrel is 24"

I have been using R22 with great results.
When I uas the 100 grain bullets I normally stick to a stoutly constructed bullet like the nosler partition.
PM me and I can let you know what my rifles like,be aware that yours may differ.
As far as distance goes I have killed as far out to 400 yards,if hit right they go no where.

I have also been using the 115 grain partition,this way I can use it on game bigger than deer

As I'm not set up for loading I'm shooting factory ammo for now, it looks like I'll be shooting factory ammo this season. I'm looking at ballistics on Federals website for their Vital Shock Premium line loaded with a tsx...

Not sure what actual velocity's I will see, but they claim 3200 at the muzzle and 2300 at 400yards. If, presuming that these are a little high, will I have enough velocity at even say 2000 fps to get optimal expansion and penetration with this bullet?

I have never used the tsx,but I done think penetration should be a problem. Exspansion I dont know abouT,does the tsx have a minimun velocity that is needed for proper exspansion?

I did a bit of research but couldn't find anything... will look some more.

The 100gr TSX out of a 25-06 or 257WBY does a fine job on elk and moose.

I had the same question concerning the 120gr 7mm and 130gr 30cal bullets so I sent a message to Barnes and this was their reply.

We test primarily in water and in some cases we have found that tissue may actually cause the bullets to expand at lower impact velocities. Especially with regard to the TTSX bullet design. The .308 cal 130gr TSX is tested at 1800fps and the TTSX version at 2000fps. The 7mm 120gr TSX is tested at 1800fps and the TTSX at 2000fps.

My wife shot a cow elk last year around 200-250 yards with ONE 100 grn Nosler Partition....Wow are those steaks good!

25-06 bullets
 

I've shot 85 gr nosler ballistic tips
90 gr positive expansion points
100 gr triple shocks
115 nosler partition
120gr positive expansion points and they are all very deadly and make hambuger out of the lungs. I never had a deer run more than 30 yards.
Farthest deer was shot at 450 yards with 85 grain ballistic tip. This is my favorite calibre. I heard there is an 80 grain tsx out.:sHa_shakeshout:
