2016 Ice Conditions Thread

I figured a thread like this would be useful to consolidate all of the other threads asking about different lake's ice conditions. If there's already one of these hiding around somewhere, please delete this thread.

Has anyone been out to Blood Indian yet?

Crankbait 11-30-2015 11:09 PM

twin valley: last Tuesday nov 24th, I fished an open water lake, two days later it skinned with ice. I would not trust the ice at twin.
pcr is half frozen, I would not trust the ice at pcr.
considering our daytime highs and the big winds the next few days for s alberta, ice making doesn't look promising for those of a stout body frame, or skinny folk for that matter.

Mitchthefisher 12-01-2015 11:50 AM

Does anyone know what the ice is like at Beauvais or Beaver Mines?

KJPFISH 12-01-2015 06:04 PM

Clear Lake east of Stavely measured approx. 7" on Dec. 1,2015

Crankbait 12-01-2015 08:02 PM

keho inlet about 7-8 inches really nice ice, other parts of the lake had frozen, thawed and re-frozen into and ugly landscape or icescape.

a friends dugout a bit more south had the smoothest blackest most perfect ice at about 6 inches.

Crankbait 12-01-2015 08:05 PM

considered going to beaver mines but changed direction when I heard the weather, maybe tomorrow.

Hydro1 12-01-2015 08:31 PM

Drove by gull earlier. Didn't look too thick.
Anyone dared to venture on the ice and check the thickness yet?

Skoaltender 12-02-2015 07:45 AM

Anyone know pigeon lake ice- at mulhurst?

Ilikefishing 12-03-2015 06:20 PM

Today, Fallis 7"; Lac la nonne RR30 7"

KJPFISH 12-03-2015 06:42 PM

Lake Newell measured about 9" in a shallow SW bay. Warm temps and strong winds are starting to melt top ice. We need more cold temps.

greyduck 12-03-2015 07:35 PM

Was on Emerald today and it's losing ice, opening in the center and flooding. Be careful out there.

Hey good idea... why did'nt I think of that?
Seriously though... if it keeps people a little safer its worth it to have another post.

Zip-in-Z 12-04-2015 12:27 PM

Was out at Dickson trout pond on Dec 03rd, nice sunny warm day +4C, went out to were no one was fishin before, punched 4-5 holes through 3.5 to 4 " ice and after 1/2 hour I was floating in over 1" of flood water .... uncomfortable. Last night the temp rose to +5C and it didn't go below 0, today forecast is another +5C .... not good for ice conditions ... be careful on this small pond.

kostianych 12-04-2015 02:00 PM

McGreagor Lake - 3-4m of open water along the north dam (rocks)

Thundercatcher 12-04-2015 02:01 PM

How's the ice near Red Deer? Like lacombe trout pond?

timsesink 12-04-2015 02:18 PM

Wizard Lake was at about 5 inches. Flood ice at centre of lake.

niwrek 12-04-2015 02:48 PM

I'd imagine it's thick. Same size pond on the south west end of town has been plowed with a atv and has had kids ice skating and play in hockey on it for days.
