Looking for someone to do a small welding job
 

Hey guys anybody know of someone in the Edmonton area that would be interested in a small job? Basically would require getting under my pick up and welding a couple brackets that would hold my truck camper .

Don't know if that is the best idea???? You would be welding onto the frame and most truck frames are heat treated and usually should not be welded on.

Probably won't cause a frame failure, but see if a Frame Repair or autobody shop would be willing to do it as they work on vehicle frames all the time.

They at least would have the skill level to ensure the best result.

in the past have always drilled holes and bolted brackets down with lock tight and proper lock washers and double or triple nutted them

also used 2 turnbuckles per tie down

Definitely drill and bolt. Many frames already have holes you can use without even drilling. My 96 RAM had holes I used for the belly bar and the rear tie downs.

Why don’t you open your wallet a little more? and buy the torq lift brand model tie down brackets! Unless you have a beater for a truck.

The attachments are engineered to handle the load and are a bolt on solution that are removeable and do not change ground clearance. Can find them used as well.

It’s not about opening my wallet. I’ve had a truck camper for over 20 years and I know what’s available. I have a stable-lift system on my camper, and it is held on by 4 brackets With a saddle that hooks onto the lift system. When I had it first installed in Montana they welded the brackets. I now have a different vehicle and need to re do it. Yes you could figure a way to bolt something on if you could get close to the lift frame. I’ll post pictures so you have a better idea of what I have.

Thats what i did to my 2018 GMC HD3500 . built some bars with a flange and drilled and tapped holes into the boxed frame. The trick when you build them is not to have them stick out to far . You want them just to pass the box an inch or two ,other wise its difficult squeezing threw the camper jacks .

Welding on a vehicle frame is bad Jsu Jsu.
Not using an engineered or otherwise OEM hook up, for your camper is tempting the liability layers.

Do it right or don’t do it.

Better to have wide plate on bracket then drill holes in it to fit available holes already in frame.

Ok thanks guys. I will try and figure out a way to mount some kind of bracket. When I get home I’ll post a picture with the camper on the truck so you can see what it looks like and hopefully you can offer some kind of solution.
