Southern Alberta Mule Deer

Well after a six hour drive finally got to my destination to find two feet of snow and much more in the coulees.
This made for heavy slugging into areas and toss in the wind, I mean wind which made you dress like you were sitting in -20 especially in the morning sits.
Over the last few days the mid day warm winds melted the snow down so that was a good thing.
We seen many deer just not the one but yesterday it just felt like this buck was the one and we sealed the deal!
The little 6/284 sent the Hornady
Interlock 100gr SP to its mark 150 yards with wind over my back which was a good thing. [emoji4]
Now back up north to hopefully seal the deal on my draw moose which has been another adventure too.

These wide open spaces are intimidating for guys like me who shoot game well under 100 yards.

And did I mention that DAM wind!!!!

Hard to see when your eyes are watering constantly.

Welcome to Southern Alberta. Things change quickly.

Congrats on the Mulie. You had a better day then Logan Orr and Ryan Thompson who shot a Mulie while trespassing and got caught while doing this! :mad0100:

Pathfinder76 11-26-2022 07:16 PM

How random.

Pathfinder76 11-26-2022 07:17 PM

Congratulations on the Mule Deer!

The wind some days can be incessant. Brutal as a matter of fact.

Smokinyotes 11-26-2022 07:20 PM

thumper 11-26-2022 11:39 PM

You should have seen the leeward side of the hills, I did two long stalks on a few bucks and was hip deep if I broke through, sucking wind literally so had to move real slow just to crest the hill on my stomach and face the wind then the eyes started to leak due to the wind but we had a blast.

Sleeping wasn’t an issue at night:)

We were very fortunate to have permission from some great landowners and others that basically keep tabs on the deer for us.
Helps my father in-law lives down south and is well known being a retired school teacher.
Many thanks to all the landowners for allowing us to access their properties.

Now gonna find my bull moose.....hopefully :)

Nice Mulie and good job in tough conditions. I was in central Alberta in an area that was not good and still is not due to snow / drifiting conditions.

Congratulations.

bessiedog 11-27-2022 09:56 AM

Nice job!

What zone were you?

Peebles 11-27-2022 10:49 AM

Stalking those mule deer is a unique thrill. Every mule deer hunt is a great one to me. I hope it's your father-in-law's turn next time. Those who doubt the snow don't know - I hunted a bit east-central this year and it was worse than mucking through wet sand.

Congrats on that fine Muley.

I'm guessing your partner is your Father In Law? Hunting with a cane is bad *****. Hope that'll be me one day.
