Me and my buddy Rick (king of the roll cast) hit pigeon last sat and caught a few eyes, by a few I mean Rick caught 18 and I caught 21:D in 3 hrs. Lots of action but nothing big. Not sure where the biggens hang out. here are a few pics.

Them are some deasent Walleye thats forsure . Seems like there really starting to get larger . I caught this one http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...johnwalley.jpg Just over 20 inches right in my normal place on shore .

We were there on Friday for the first time and it is a great place for the kids as the action was non stop. The fish in the pics look just like the size we caugth and the couple i weighed were right at the 2 pound mark. Nice lake but the boat launch sucks for such a busy lake.

any good spots near the provincial campground? I'm headin camping next weekend and would like to get the line wet.

Good pics. Those are the usual size me and my kids have been pulling out in the past month... we have little cabin in Mulhurst and we head out every weekend. I have to say... this lake is great for kids. I take mine out (5yr & 7yr old) in my little 12 ft aluminum, hook them up with pickerel rigs (casting is still a bit dangerous!) and let them go at it. I have no time to fish myslef... all I do is re-set hooks and release the fish. Two saturdays ago my daughter caught 12 in one hour. Best action i have seen for wallys this year is the point at end of silver beach.
Tonight we are heading out again... but this time i am bringing my 9wt fly rod to fish the shallows and weed beds around pelican island and the near shore. Hopefully get some pike on the fly ... good good fun (most fun way to fish for pike btw). But yes... that boat launch needs just a bit of work. |
BTW... any pike updates so far this year? Anyone caught anything over 5lbs - 7lbs lately?
|
Right out in front of the boat launch at the Provincial park you will see all the boats lined up fishing. There is a drop off there and we were catching fish in about 18 feet of water you cant miss if you try there.

Thanks for the reply Big John .
Is the water level low this year . If so the hump might be a hot spot this year. |
the hump...
you say that like there's only one cheers |
When she goes from 20 to 5 feet in the middle of the lake
I say its the " hump " |
last year that spot went from 22 to 7 (at least if its one of the ones i fish). kinda sad how low it is right now
cheers |
so how is the hump this year
|
we were out there for the day on saturday, before the armageddon-looking storm started to blow in; fishing was the slowest i have ever had on the hump (prob due to quickly dropping pressure). did catch about a dozen in 1.5 hours on that spot, one was 4.25lbs.
on a side note; what a gong show the PP boat launch was comming off the lake. With the weather rolling in everybody came in at once; took over an hour to get through the lineup and get the boat off the water. there was a guy there, directing traffic due to the number of vehicles. It was nice that most everybody was patient with the situation and just rolled with the slowwwww flow cheers |
Was out again at pigeon this weekend... on the hunt for pike. I tried pike on the fly at a number locations on east side of lake. Best success were the weed beds south of that big rock island... most were small... but good fun kept me busy. Friday night I took Bigjohns advice and headed across the lake for some pike... but just one wally. But wow were there a lot of boats out there at the park.
Saturday around 6pm took my little guy to the point just off silver beach. We only stayed about 15 min. but he caught 5 using a pickerel rig (two at once on one rig actually). One was really nice - 5lbs... always have success there. Clouds became ugly then we headed in. PP gong show: It helps when people direct traffic there... makes things go smoother and faster. I was at Pine Lake campground a couple years back and a massive wind picked up... huge rollers hitting beach and boat launch. There was such a log jam of boats trying 2-3 times to trailer.. and wind was horrible. After about 5 min of this, about 5 of us got in the water and guided all the boats on their trailers,,. got em hooked, sent em up and waited for next trailer. We were in the water for 40 minutes. Actually, this Sunday morning I walked down to Mulhurst (I have cabin there) boat launch... had to get wet and help a couple guys put in as waves were very high... Hope some helps me if I ever needed. |
Well I'm for sure headin down to Pigeon this weekend.... any suggestions as far as hooks/lures and bait?
I'll be fishin from shore, around the provincial park campground. Also, is it possible to wade in? Or does it get deep real quick/too rocky? thx |
