Coyote tail spreaders
Does anyone know where I can to pick up a few coyote tail spreaders?
I need something that faster than pinning them out to dry. There was at one time plastic ones available at some trapping supply stores but I can seem to be able to locate any. Thanks for your help TEH |
Usick Tail Perfect
think the inventor was from sk I think if we all did our tails with such the chinese would go BONKERS over them and there would be many tail strips adorning parkas over ther. Perhaps there is without? Try a piece of aluminum screen, or stainless and make yerself some lill' straps that hook on each side of your wood board to bungee the tail flat. Doesn't work on mine. |
Thanks Marty,
I use my grandfathers old rat boards that are not the right shape for pinning my tails. These boards are not the right shape at the head for rats so I have a new use for them. Was just looking for some of these tail spreaders, have one but its is not enough. Will see what a person can make if they are no longer available. TEH |
Hey found 2 but could use a couple more. I got pattern now so now maybe we can make a couple of metal ones. .

I just use a ball bungee and an old rat board for split coyote boards |
That just looks unnatural, I split the tail, rub borax on the leather to assist drying and let the tails hang between the boards.

It would look nice to a furrier vs rolled up natural, if he or she was going to try to use it. Fur is always blocked out during construction by professionals.
Generally tails are considered throwaway byproduct, sold by the pound, too much labour to try to block out to use. Difficult fur to work with at best anyways but likely the Chinese clientelle and possibly others would appreciate such flattened tails because some of them do try to work with it. |

I remember back in the day when I took my trappers course and the big deal back then was to skin out the front legs and board them up flat. 20 years later when I got back into game of skinning and finishing coyote pelts I did that exact thing because it was what I remembered from my youth. The old trapper who was at westlock when I stopped in there to deliver my coyotes kinda laughed and informed me they don’t do that anymore, no market for it.

Thought they used marten tails for paint brushes?

Borrow one from someone that has some and get a bunch made and sell the extras to everybuddy!
They didnt fly last time but this time we have us the internet. Hopefully fur trapping/industry will be tolerated with Trudeau and his buddys's "Great Restart". If so, things should "GO FRICKING CRAZY"very soon with NOTHING OF A RANCH MINK HARVEST LEFT. Get going, start trapping and if you don't like today's prices, sit on your "investment" and speculate on your goods. Yes there's risk but potential exponential upsides! I suspect $20 rats coming up in a couple seasons, maybe more, maybe lots more. Think "$110.00 USD fricking ranch minks 7 years ago", and it was $110.00 USD minks all day long for days on end I think 100 at a time. RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP, RAP and that would be 1400 mink sold in likley a minute of bidding and6 seconds of gavel beating the block... $200,000 CDN and at least 10% plus going to the auction house... ALL DAY LONG,and for days on end. and we can come up with 1 million rats??? vs 90 million ranch mink Gosh, what do you think them stunning lill sables gonna run? I better pick up all my extremely well made Hutterite built 8" round muskrat funnel traps that are laying at the old place in the snow before the place gets unloaded! |
(...just be sure to get an energy efficient freezer to store them in so you a good boy/compliant when the Enviro Cops show up at the door... you know the same guys that gonna be the covid cops first... and then somewhere in the middle the “knock/bust-down the door “confiscate-certain-property-cops”... coming soon if Trudeau gets his way!)

fur prices
Marty, maybe if we a very lucky we will get prices half way to those in the 1940's when ranch mink taken out of the equation.
