Sturgeon fishing Fraser river

Put a post up this past spring about fishing on the Fraser river for sturgeon. I ended up booking with cascade and we had a hell of a trip!

Did you fellas also go after salmon?
We have that option but I want to at least concentrate on sturgeon first.
Is there a local place to get the fresh water licence and the sturgeon stamp?

What will be running when you're there? Springs are big and fun to catch but usually harder to catch, if you have like a large run of sockeye and you bottom bounce for them it's pretty action packed but the average size is only about 6-8 lbs. The way I'd do it is fish salmon in the morning until you get your limit then spend the rest of the day chasing sturgeon. Sometimes I'd just go after sturgeon. Your guide will know if there is a good salmon run at the time. If they give you the option of buying a salt water license, get it. The best sturgeon fishing I've ever had was just west of the mission bridge where a salt water lisence is required.

Good luck on your trip and make sure you post some pics when you get back!

PS, start doing a light workout and some stretches now, those big Dino's will give you a heck of a workout!

Sturgeon fishing Fraser river

The Fraser is the best... anyone who goes there for sturgeon will not be disappointed. (Unless you end up with a crappy guide)

Kurt505 mentioned exercise... I’ve been there 3 different times and last summer I landed back to back (20min apart) 120-160lb’ers. It was all cheers and high fives until two days later when my left elbow and forearm were in major pain. This turned into tennis elbow and a year later it still bugs me. A couple older guys that were out at the Fraser River lodge the same day caught 6 sturgeon, all over 7’ (biggest was 9’) near the canyon were a real mess the next day.

If you are in a spot where you can’t quickly drift to shore or have a stubborn fish that won’t leave the current easily you get stuck above the fish hanging on for dear life trying to keep pressure on. Prolonged periods of time stuck in this position (pic attached) can really wreak havoc on your arms. But I can’t wait to go back. Lol.

Ask for Larry he is the man!
We did not go after salmon, the sockeye are running through thick right now but it just didn’t interest us as much as the giant dinosaurs! Good luck man it’s a blast. I am booking for next year again!

As for working out....hopefully my cross fit training will kick in but I would enjoy the pull of a Dino to test me:). Over and over:sHa_shakeshout:

Oh man you're gonna love it. I'm addicted, I can't drive by Mission on my way to Vancouver without going out for a day trip on the Fraser for sturgeon.

Lake trout fishing will never be the same :scared0018:

Just my wife and I fishing. She had just lost a 5’er after it jumped out of the water and took her for a bit of a ride... after that she kept giving me the nod to take the rod on a bite. It’s all her fault. [emoji4]
