We don't all fit in the Mad River anymore, so this year I decided it was time for another canoe. With this covid thing getting my hands on the one I wanted took some doing, but we finally got the Bob Special home this week.

Paddled solo (or with a kid upfront) she's quite a bit faster than the Explorer, much easyer to handle in the wind, and tracks a bit straighter. Feels a bit more twitchy when standing and fishing out of it but runs nice and dry in big chop.

My family of 4 runs a Nova Craft 16 foot Prospector. We can fit 2 kids (4 and 5 years old), 2 adults and enough gear for several days.

I expect we will need to expand in the next few years too!

Very cool! I've never fished from a canoe before. Might have to give it a try.

luv canoe's.....looking back single teenager, young man, then young family and now still got the ol'garbage barge...so versatile...many memories.

The 17' Grumman was starting to get a little tight for me, my wife, and 3 girls.
I started wondering what I should do about it.
Out of the blue my sister asks
"Can I store my canoe at your place?"

Problem solved.

Thanks, we do have a boat, as well as a big old square back freighter canoe, but honestly splitting up into two canoes is more convenient than us all trying to fish out of either of them.

When the wind behaves there really is no more enjoyable way to spend a day on the water IMO. When the wind doesn't want to co-operate however, it can become less fun pretty fast. That's when one needs an anchor, a good sense of balance, and a very Zen outlook on the whole situation.

Agree very much, my grandfather gave me my first canoe when I was 12, and ever since I've never even considered life without one. In the 15 years I've owned my Explorer I've owned 2 houses and went through about dozen vehicles and ATV's. In all honesty a good canoe is one of the most long term investments an outdoorsman can make... so while I mostly drive cheap beater vehicles, I own some pretty nice canoes.

Allright, you convinced me, pics of the rest of the fleet. First the Explorer, cause she's my favorite and has the most good memories attached to her. We've been through hell and back several times.

We do have a couple kayaks kicking around, but honestly, we don't seem to be kayak people. No pics of them.

IMO kayaks are for people who lack the patience to learn a proper J stroke... obviously opinions will vary.
