Camping near Edmonton - hassle free
I am looking to go Camping with a larger group of people. Trying to find something where we can leave our music on and not get bothered by park rangers all nite long.
Any suggestions? |
Put a tent up on the dance floor at Cowboys.

I highly doubt you'll find a campground that will allow that , in the area . Youd have to head far west like Brazeau county or near Rocky and nordegg where there's all them campgrounds that are 90 % empty . But I don't think it matters where you go , The rangers im sure eventually roll threw them all .

If you're one of the folks that do this...
http://www.albertalocalnews.com/redd..._46620137.html Then you won't get much help here. BUT If you're just wanting to get away and have a good time AND clean up after yourselves and not trash the place, then PM me and I'll give you a few ideas. |
They are closed... maybe they would let us... lol
From experience I found most Provincial campgrounds expect You to go to sleep at 10pm. No music minimal noise. Even on the group campsites its hard to keep the noise level down when you have 50 people. We have a triple birthday and dont want to disturb or cause any trouble. A private campground or propertly rental would be ideal. We used to use crown land near eden lake but that got fenced off. Any suggestions? |

I guarantee You I would be the last person to leave a mess.
Im ussually the one picking up the garbage after everyone else. Its a group of late 20, ealry 30 - year olds. We live outdoors once the ice breaks. Like I mentioned before, we had this amazing spot, but unfortunatley (just like your picture) a buch of local kids trashed it and it got shut down. |
Your best bet is going to be on crown land. Find a spot, and just try to be sure to be well away from other campers who may not appreciate 50 people up all night partying. By well away, I mean something like a mile away.

Sorry.. guess I should have been more specific.... I was looking for something close to home this time, maybe 100km radius of Edmonton. Unfortunately work always gets in the way of fun and some of us have to drive back for work.

can you camp in the river valley by devon? at prospector point?
|
Jackfish lake by Athabasca is good, they have a sweet group site..
Just west of Edson on the Rob highway has a lot of great spots on crown land, along a river and lots of ATV trails |

Since it is an event, with a large group of people. I just thought I would throw this out there. There is a place called cloverlawn hall. Prob about 10 mins west of Leduc on Rolleyview road?? I think. Its on the other side of the coolie. It has a quite big area for alot of campers, with a big bon fire area in the middle. Hall rental with kitchen, baseball diamonds, horseshoes, and a playground. We rent it all the time for family reunions and stuff like that. I believe we pay somewhere around $500 for the weekend. But really noone bothers you at all, stay up as late as you want, be as loud as you want. Hell we even set off fireworks in the ball diamonds. Its quite private, lots of trees.
Anyways good luck =) |
there is black nugget lake, its an old open pit coal mine that is stocked with trout. lots of places to camp and you can be as loud as you want...not alot for trees and stuff but its about 1 hour south east of the city near tofield.

There is a place near the town of Peers which is about 32 km.'s east of the town of Edson. They have camping spots beside the McLeod River, baseball diamonds, horseshoe pitches, an open air covered pavillion and outhouses as well as well water. Also a cook house that costs an extra $50 per day. The grounds rent for $125 per day. It is called the McLeod Valley Recreation grounds. There is a refundable deposit for cleaning up after yourself. If you are interested PM me and I will send you a contact name and number. New Alberta rules for non-profits have forced them to ask that renters carry insurance which we managed to find for $138 per day.
We have an annual family reunion there and the grounds are a great place and no "park gestapo" to hassle you. Keep Your Powder Dry Dave. |
If you want to go a bit further the Brazeau damb has lots of areas away from other people. also they have a few group spots. Its a very very nice area and great for people who want to enjoy camping and have the music up a bit through out the night. I know for work we have booked there a few times and its always great.

Do you know if there are any areas around black nugget lake that is not an actual camp ground that a person can camp at? My kids hate camping in campgrounds and enjoy they "wild". We love fishing and camping but without the campground settings??
