My first limit! :)

So over the summer I purchased an old single shot cooey model 84 in 16 gauge. It was pretty beat up so I removed the bluing and fixed up the stock to use as a grouse gun. Last week I took it out at my farm and was able to find and shoot one grouse. Today I took it out to some crown land and was able to bag the limit of 5 grouse! It was a fantastic day with great weather which was awesome. I look forward to many more days out in the bush this season!

Congrats on a good day out hunting.

Awesome! Congrats! Grouse numbers are high this year! I have not used a shotgun on a grouse ( don't have a shotgun) . Does it damage meat a lot?

If you are going to shoot them on the ground, you aim high, so that just the bottom of the pattern hits the head and neck area.

Love the photos!

I'd always head out when that certain smell was in the air. Can't beat it.

Thanks for posting the shots!

Nice job on the gun and congrats on the great day of grouse hunting, nothing like a good day in the woods.

Very cool.

Those old Cooey's are great guns. I have a 12 and a 20 gauge given to me by my parents....... always thought about fixing them up a bit. After seeing yours I may just have to do that!

Nathan F. 10-06-2012 08:36 PM

Ya I really like how it looks now! You have to make sure to oil the barrel lots to keep away the rust but I like the stainless steel look.

My dad had one of those and it killed a lot of ruffies! Kicked like the proverbial mule though!

Beautiful to see....way to go! I have the same single shot 16 Ga... model 840 ...have had it for 40 years... since I was a youngster of 14yrs....a hand me down from my older brother. I re-finished it when I rec'd a year later at 15 and it still looks the same. I will never part with it...too many memories with grouse, rabbits, ducks and hunting with the bros. Thanks for posting and sharing your pics. Looks great and congrats on a successful outing!

Awesome, love the old cooey, "classic" as it gets right there, same damn good table fare as well, congrats!!

bartman 10-06-2012 11:15 PM

And the great thing about a single shot.....you learn pretty quick to make that shot count! :)

Their is a spray paint that has stainless in it and works very well on gun barrels. I did a cooey 64b for my daughter and painted the barrel with it and it looks identical to a stainless barrel. Congrats on a good hunt and the shottie is very nice looking.

That sounds pretty cool! What's it called? I'm assuming it's a protective coating? Thanks!

Nice job on the chickens. And a VERY nice job on the gun. It looks great in the pictures. Good to see old guns get a spit shine and taken out to do what they were intended for still.
