Who Does Quality Checkering?

I'll be looking for some quality checkering soon on a new AAA walnut stock. Nothing funky, just traditional, hand-cut patterns.

The guy I've been using is slow and pretty good. I'd like to find somebody really good, pref. in or close to AB but that's not all that important. Quality above all.

I was wondering if anybody got a checkering job that knocked your socks off?

Did someone build you a new stock or are you re-finishing?
The reason I ask is I've tossed around the idea of having one built as opposed to an off the shelf model.

I built it. I buy them roughed out and do the final fitting by hand and then finish it with hand rubbed oil.

I don't think I want to learn to do checkering on my own stocks.:)

Lew Bates in Taylor B.C. Ralf Martini in Cranbrook. Steve Markin in Kelowna. I suspect that Ralf is too busy checkering his own rifles to do any others but I'm pretty sure Lew is available. Leeper
