Wind drift
Is there anyone who can help me with question.
This weekend I was Mulie Hunting in some VERY strong winds (likely 70-90 KPH). We spotted a decent Mulie Buck at 250 yds, wind was 90 degrees (broadside). I'm shooting a .270, 150 gr. partition pushed by 57 gr. of 4350 (pretty hot) I didn't shoot due to the strong wind gusts, early date and the buck was short about 30 inches. My question is what would the wind drift be on this shot? Thanks |
I am not sure what it would be for that load but thought this might help. if you download this federal ballistics program you can input what the wind was on that day and then get a reading. it may not be the same for your rifle a cartridge but could be close. hope this helps.

That is an excellent download. It's on my desktop now! So if my calculations are correct with a 50MPH wind (80 KPH) the wind drift is about 20 inches at 250 yds. On a broadside buck facing into the wind I would need to hold on the brisket to make a kill zone shot. Even with my bipod down the wind was making it difficult to hold steady. Good shot not to try. |
