Stock preference
 

What kind of stock does everyone prefer? I tend to prefer a walnut stock. I just like the feel of wood better. But I'm curious as to what other shooters like.

I'm with you regarding wood. I purchase a rifle 40% caliber I want and 60% the look of the wood. Has to be amazing wood or I'll walk away. With that being said I just picked up my first synthetic stock, something I said I would never do but.....wanted something to survive quading and not beat up a nice piece of wood.

Wood, or laminate. Laminate for their durability and wood for the traditional warm look and feel.

Any wood will do as long as it is walnut!:lol:
I have one laminate target rifle, the rest are all solid wood .

Gotta stay with wood, I have a few that I stripped and re-stained these guns are 40 years old and still look beautiful.

I like synthetic.

I like stocks that fit me.:D
Wood, Lam, Syn or real Fibergalss, it dont matter, as long as it fits my frame.

Anyone know who still makes after market synthetic/composite stocks in Canada. I see Ramline won't ship to Canada any longer. I'd like to get one for my '70s Winchester Mdl. 70 Featherlight and am having a problem finding anything decent.........

I prefer the feel of wood but the durability of synthetic. A good compromise is a laminated wood stock.

There was an outfit in Edmonton that made custom fibreglass stocks but their name eludes me. Corlane Sporting Goods uses them (or did a few years ago).

McMillan for me. To my eye paint looks better than so so wood which is what you get with most factory rifles.

Wood looks nicer, but I like synthetic cause I'm not worried about scuffing it up when I have to go through ugly spots to get the shot I want.

If you can find on with the feel of wood and the weight of synthetic , I'll take one.
Personally I liked the scuffs and marks on my wood stocks.... adds character

i want them to stand up to the abuse of the real world.i prefer kevlar, 'glass or funky type synthetics,
but not injection molded:sick:.
because i like liteweight rifles, i find the mass of laminates stocks to be too heavy and seem brittle so they chip easily.
IMO a beatup wood gunstock looks plain awful and looks even worse when filled with putty and revarnished. although ive owned my share...ive never been a fan of the blue and lumber thing.
when i think of wood stocks, i think hi end weatherbys, they seem to have the wildest lumber stocks and always catch my eye at the gun counters. early belguim brownings are so exotic they go beyond guns and are closer to works of art. Winslow rifles are other examples of wood stocks gone out of control..ivory inlays, basketweave, carvings...
