Poll, allow .223” diam. bullets for big game?

Now that we’ve had some digest time...reduce the min diam. from .243 to .223?

Salavee 08-01-2018 04:25 PM

Why not ?

In other terms the diff is .020 .. That's more than the difference between a .358 and a .375 by .003

elkhunter11 08-01-2018 05:15 PM

Definitely not, nothing smaller than .224".:)

Attilathecanuk 08-01-2018 05:54 PM

Yes. Nothing wrong with 223 on big game

Xbolt7mm 08-01-2018 05:59 PM

Again with this!!!!!!!

Slicktricker 08-01-2018 06:08 PM

Not enough energy for me for big game but excellent coyote round

TrendyRendy 08-01-2018 06:13 PM

Would be nice to take out some semi auto 223 hunting. Like the t97

Its cause he has buyers remorse over purchasing a 223 bolt action rifle when he knows he should have bought a 243 for his kids to learn on and eventually hunt with. Every time he looks at the thing he gets an urge to post something about 223 on the forum.

Another brilliant thread started by who else
Why don’t we just use solids too
That way we make sure we maximize the sd of our ammo
And every shot would be a pass through

I agree other hunters are using it in many places already. Same old story just some people who believe that everyone elses skills are as limited as their own.

Dubious 08-01-2018 07:15 PM

A thread about something other than 6.5 masterrace or ttsx bullets started by stinky is a pretty refreshing change. If you can kill game with a recurve and that’s ok why do people get so upset about 223?

For the most part I agree, but how did you come to compare a .223 to a recurve?

Don_Parsons 08-01-2018 08:49 PM

Maybe one of the AO Tech folks on the forum could do a controlled test to show us if the comparisons between cartrage/ caliber is the same or different.

A better test then this one.

Have another beer lol. You’re mixing people up now. I don’t own a .223. I have a few Grendel’s, .270, 300wm etc.

Didn’t start this thread with stir the pot intentions. Started it off to see how the vote would go, that’s it. We don’t need to reply. Just wondered what the collective here was. We gonna be ok?

Just sold a 243 and a 204 and a 270wsm in the past two months. There grendels cover off what the first two were doing. The wsm just more than I’ll ever need. The 300wm has some sentimental value. The gem is my .270 win, we’re good to 600, and now some grendels too for whatever.

Stinky Coyote 08-01-2018 09:05 PM

I started a thread about ttsx bullets? Is it a full moon tonight or something?

Settle down, just wanted a vote, that’s it. I’m curious what all we’ve absorbed this summer. I could give a four fisted flying f... if it’s allowed or not lol.✌️

Whether I agree or not doesn’t matter, also doesn’t matter to me if allowed, have other choices in the light hitter class that are allowed and I have them so all good. I’ll support the inclusion if it happens some day though.

Good to hear you don't care one way or the other. Should the poll favor the NO vote that won't mean we must have missed something you posted over the summer, will it ?

Touché, i do recall now that this 223 idea was infact driven by someone else, not you. :scared0018:

I call BS. You wanted to stir the pot again, and try to explain how your interpretation of other guy's interpretation of some other guys video, or handbook, or ammo table, should justify shooting game with smaller & smaller calibers at longer & longer distances.

How small you want to go? How far you want to shoot them at? Why don't you just run that poll first?

Stinky Coyote 08-01-2018 09:47 PM

Someone else started the .223 discussions and we don’t always see eye to eye. Despite that the only thing I thought was missing from all that was a simple poll. I didn’t start this for anything other than to complete that chapter. I think .223 bullet choices now could be used responsibly and effectively. But really, I have 3 Grendel projects on go so it doesn’t matter one bit to me if we ever have the option to .223 bullets. Those 90’s sure do look good though. ✌️

At least he backs up everything he says with facts, he's not just spewing his opinions as facts like some other guys do so often.

I've actually learned a few things reading his posts, like actual facts...

This poll about bullet diam. only. Nothing cartridge related. .22-06 running 90gr for example. A .22-250 with fast twist barrel. New .224 Valkyrie etc.

Trump facts or Hillary facts?
His sig line says he's killed more big deer with a bow than you've seen! Look that over Kurt.

Stay with it then. You have a ways to go.

Stinky Coyote 08-01-2018 10:08 PM

It’s just a poll, good lord

Lol, I over looked that part actually, but I did see a couple of the deer he's killed, pretty impressive.

He has spent a lot of time posting the math behind ballistics, and I'm sure anyone who understood what he typed was able to learn something. I know that there is a belief out there that bigger is better when it comes to hunting rifles, but I'm not one of them. I believe accuracy and bullet construction Trump caliber every time (see what I did there? I guess these are Trump facts, lol).

I'm thankful for Stinky's posts, it's really helped bide my time with a broken leg..... bahahaha!
