Prince Rupert Recent Reports?
 

Anyone have any recent reports from Prince Rupert? We are heading out Friday for 4 days of fishing. Latest we have ever gone. Buddy and mines schedules didn't allow us to get out for prime time chinook fishing this year and due to other commitments, the last couple weeks of August were our best bet to get out so we thought we would go and try something different and maybe try a little casting for coho. Hopefully the big northerns are starting to show up.

I have a friend at rupert right now. He is having luck up towards dundas but really having problems with the weather. Lots of days when the waves worked him over.

Taking your own boat or being guided?

Guided. same guy every year for the past 6 years, usually go out end of june, depending on the tides, for big springs. First year going out this late.

Would have to think not much around for Springs but should be some good Coho. Post how it went when you get home.

A few chinooks were still showing up last week supposedly. First week of August there were lots around.

I just got back from Duncanby
We were still catching Chinooks. 4 Tyee.
Incredible amounts of COHO 12 - 13 pounds.
Halibut were slow. Largest caught was about 12 pounds.
Rockfish were over the top. I have never caught so many in my life.
Unbelievable fishing.

Just got back from three days at Rupert. We ran up to dundas and got our limit of coho. Largest was 13 lbs. This trip we tried comparing teaser heads to cut plug. The clear winner was cut plug herring. Not only did the teaser head catch fewer fish but they were also much smaller. Out last day we went on the outside and caught 3 halibut and one ling. The weather was perfect and it was a great way to end the season.

Interesting observation about the cut plug, i noticed one day we seemingly outfished a lot of the other boats at the mouth of the work channel running mainly cut plugs as well.

Very interesting observation. Were you running both the teaser head and the cut plug behind flashers? Also were you using herring in your teaser heads or anchovies?

We ran dummy flashers on both sides.i ran anchovies in the teaser head and then switched to cut plug herring with the same flasher. Over one day theteaser caught 2 small coho which were not worth keeping. Switched to cut plug and caught 8 nice coho. Also caught multiple rockfish trolling teaser and none on the cut plug. Both baits at the same depth.

Ran both a herring in an anchovy teaser head and cut plug with no teaser, the cut plug seemed to outfish almost everything both without a flasher and with, I'm liking more and more running with just the dummy flasher, just a lot more direct, that being said our biggest two springs were caught on spoons. For big coho this year bait was king though.

Have any of you guys tried the "Break Away" flashers? Big fan of them myself. Sometimes hard to find though.

Havent tried them yet, and noticed you dont see many of them around, any disadvantages to them Jamie??

I haven't found a disadvantage yet. And your right, they are tough to find. It is a hair more complicated to hook them up the first time. I appreciate how they break off and you don't have to fight the flasher end of it. I have gone through Thousands of dollars of gear and as I am putting back together my Tackle box. (New boat coming up!!) My tackle box will be so simple and tight. I am thinking it will only have these in 3 Colors. Green, Green and of course GREEN. :-)
