My two best lure by far no other two compare
#1 AKME kastmaster take lots they will be eaten alive
#2 shamano waxwing be sure to use a black titanium leader it’s a kick in the nuts loosing the waxwing.

I have a couple years worth of info compiled here not sure why some of my pictures dispapeard. Some surfcasting poppers are fun to if the fish are feeling frisky.

Just remember reel way faster than you would with freshwater fish.

Hey Raw,

In the link you provided, I saw a photo of a fish you took on the sand and you have your rod shown above it, do you know what kind of fish that is? I caught something that looked like that last year in Cancun but much smaller and on the fly. I'm haven't been able to identify that fish yet.

Thanks.

It sort of depends on the fishing calendar , but x2 for the cast masters or deadly dicks. 1 or 2 OZ are pretty normal. Typically they are hard to find locally so you can order DD’s direct from there website.

My last couple of trips being out before sunrise made a big difference up at 5 and I was basically back eating breakfast with the wife at 8:30 or so.

Heavy floro leaders are a must if sierras are around they don’t like wire.

Silver Kastmasters and Deadly Dicks are the 5'o Diamonds of surf fishing.

I couldn’t tell what kind fish that was. I usually ask the locals and they have some Spanish name that I can’t even say. As mentioned above you got to be out there in the dark. It seemed as soon as the sun cam up over the horizon and shon down on the surf the fish shut right off. If you see fish bubbling and birds diving run like a madman get a hook into the middle reel like crazy. That’s the best chance of getting large fish.

I have tried lots of colors. It’s seems like color doesn’t matter much but more the shadeding and pattern on the lure, of it matches the bait fish patterns. I have used all of these and had success. The needlefish go nuts. I like the 118mm size the 138 works just as good but they are pretty big to cast with my setup. The 118 also has a treble on the back the 138mm has a double hook. The darn needlefish are fast and hard to hook so the 118 has a bit of an advantage.
Ghost purple / pink and the bone color look good but haven’t tried them yet.

I've had really good luck with the pink/white waxwings as well.

Has anyone tried one of these, they should work well if there are mullet around.

Those look very nice. Maybe I will get a few and try this year.
