4.5-14 Zeiss Conquest with Rapid Z 800 is what mine wears. Makes a deadly long-range hunting rig that's for sure.

ya i was thinking of something with a reticle setup instead of having to turn dails o y what kind of load does your rifle like and bullets if you dont mind me asking?

I shoot 140 grain Trophy Bonded Bearclaws out of mine.

My custom 7 STW has Leupold LR 4.5 x 14 x40 AO on it with Duplex reticle.
140 grain Barnes TTSX with 84 grains of H1000 is what she likes at 3450ft/second for 160grains is Barnes MRX at 3300 ft/sec.

As for scope I tried different reticles and I shoot best with Duplex.
I am familiar with trajectory of my load so if it is 12 inches low at 500 yards when set 3 inches high at 100 why would you clutter you field of view with multi point reticles?

What type of hunting you do with this gun ? How far you are confident to shoot? Bush or open and long shots expected? ; mountains where weight is important this should be considered when choosing a scope, are you after game that can hunt you ?

I use Duplex reticle and Shephunter is using Zeiss rapid z 800 so everybody has preference for those things.
I was thinking about upgrading for this gun and Nightforce in 5.5 x22 came to mind ....I would choose 56 mm for gun that you not intending to go sheep hunting with.
If you have cash burning in your pocket than maybe Zeiss with rangefinder for 4000- 4500 is best of the best

Z600 isn't that well suited to a cartridge like the 7STW.....the 800 is a better fit.

If you don't mind the size and weight. Zeiss Victory 6-24x72 Mildot with FL glass - 1/4moa adjustments! Best performance at 24x on the market. Down side... heavy, and big but if you can handle the size and weight there is nothing like them.

Will have another in the shop shortly.

I like basic & mil-dot reticle's I find alot of the other x-hairs too busy for my liking.I Refuse to use a range finder and can still crank deer at far ranges with regular x-hairs no problem.I also like the swaro scopes, but they are $$$$ so zeiss would be my choice! what model of rifle do you got chambered in the 7mmstw? or is it custom?

hotspot 08-21-2010 08:54 PM

the 7stw is a factory sako 75 in mcmillian stock 26'

My own 7mmstw rifles both wear Swarovski 3-10x42 scopes with duplex reticles, and they work well on big game to 500 yards. Both rifles like the 140gr tsx ahead of imr 7828.The 140gr ballistic tip also works well with the same powder.

elkhunter11 08-22-2010 07:59 PM

I have owned three 7mmstw rifles, all built on stainless 700 actions, using McMillan stocks with 26" barrels by McLennon,Schneider, and Kreiger.

hotspot 08-22-2010 08:11 PM

i have mine laying in a mcmillan stock too and all glassed bedded ets shes
80% black 10%grey 10% red shes pretty!! lol!!

elkhunter11 08-22-2010 08:12 PM

The McLennon barreled rifle would not do better than 3400fps with 140gr bullets, and 3/4moa at best,so I built a second one with a Schneider barrel. That rifle would do over 3500fps with very good brass life, and sub 1/2moa,so I kept it and sold the first rifle.I then built the third rifle with the Kreiger barrel. It produced 3500fps and was easily sub 1/2moa,so I kept it,as well as the second rifle.

cant wait to start making loads for my stw:sHa_shakeshout:

grizzler 08-22-2010 08:22 PM

Stw

I have the same Sako 75 7STW... Mine loves 78.6grs H1000 with Berger 168 vlds doing 3250 fps. Tack driver. I have tried lots of different bullets and powders, this is definatly the best i've found. Not exactly sold on the bullets performance on animals yet, But 3 holes touching at 300 yrds will do for me.
Remember that this load is for "MY " gun its really hot so if your going to try it start considerably lower and work your way up.
As far as scopes i just have a leupold VX 3 with custom turrets.

hotspot 08-22-2010 08:27 PM

how do you have it zero in at

grizzler 08-22-2010 08:34 PM

100yds

With my turrets its on at 100.... then twist to your desired yardage and squeeze the trigger.
