Lake McGregor advice please...

I'm a bit of a newb and am trying to get my kids into fishing. We have an aluminum trolling boat, and from home the closest lakes are McGregor, Pine Coulee, Crawling Valley and Eagle Lake by Strathmore. We've had some success at Pine Coulee for Walleye.

I've been to McGregor a few times but have come up short. I like the lake and the proximity, and would really like to help my kids get a few bites and keep up their interest in fishing there.

Any advice regarding fishing this lake? I've heard that there are lots of pike there, and trolling with small spoons or Kastmasters usually produces.

You would be better off Lindy rigging or bottom bouncing for walleyes than trolling spoons for pike. If you troll shad raps and Wally divers you will catch fish as well. It's one of the tougher lakes to figure out but it is full of fish.

Walleye and pike at MacGregor

Troll crankbaits or bottom bouncers, along the weed edges near the boat launch and inlet canal. That should produce enough action. If not pm me for more info.
