Any outdoor store. But a tfo rod. Won't be disappointed. You can get a good set up for $300 or under. and has a lifetime warranty. Also best quality rod for the bottom end price range IMO.

Not to mention if you live in or near Calgary, their warehouse is located by Blackfoot Trail, so you don't have to ship in to get a fix for your rod or reel.

Canadian Tire sells TFO Rod & Reel combos already strung with backing and floating fly line. They have the same lifetime warranty as buying it at any sporting goods store. I would most likely choose the 5 weight 9 foot model, heavy enough to cast in the wind but light enough for small creeks and small fish. As for Flies, right now wholesale sports in Calgary is selling them for $1.00 each (usually $2.25) not sure about the Edmonton store. If not, click on the link above in the advertising area for Ickyflyworks.ca. There the same price all the time but have a 10% off deal for first time buyers. Good luck!!!

Unfortunately those are the prices... Cabelas does have a starter setup with tools and I think flys for around $180 , can't really beat that. I think they sell their cheaper combo for under $80. The reviews on their website seemed mixed.

I would also check out Pieroway Fly rods they are also a local fly rod company. I own a couple and will continue to buy them. They are by appointment only so i would give them a call before you stop by the shop. Welcome to the fly fishing club!
