binoculars which do you use?
 

hi guys :) ive just managed to get hold of a pair of zeiss classics 10 x 40 t*p* as new in the box from a collector ive been trying for ages to get hold of a pair of these the optics are great and they are bombproof! just wondering what everyone else uses?

Primarily Zeiss 10 X 45 RF ..... and I love 'em

I sold my Zeiss 10x40 Classics, after using them for 18 years and bought a pair of Leica 10x42 Geovid HDs to replace them.

Zeiss Conquest 8x50t's for me

Swarovski EL 10x42 that i won at the fnaws show raffle a few years back.

Leica 8X32s. I like them because they're fairly compact and light, but still very bright.

Leica 8x42 for in the thick/mixed stuff, and Swaro 10x42 for sheep and mulie. About equal for clarity. You dont really see the advantage to high dollar optics until you spend extended periods glassing, or for first and last light advantage. Then they really kick azz over the bargain brands.

how did you find the classics elkhunter? ive just taken them out for a look see and im very impressed with them!:sHa_shakeshout:

also have a pentax dcf hs 8x36 as a beater/loaner/spare vehicle pair...not bad for under 300, surprised a buddy or two...but head to head with alpha class glass and you can see the difference...i may use the pentax more in the future for bush/bow hunting

I used them for 18 yeares, for everything from elk hunting to glassing for sheep, and they performed quite well. The optics are quite bright and clear, and they proved to be very durable. I sold them in order to purchase binoculars with a built in laser rangefinder.

how does the glass in the lecias compare with the zeiss? sure must be handy to have built in rangefinder!

I've used Swarovski EL 10x42s for the last six years.
The diopter adjustment buggered up this winter. I'll have
to get that taken care of soon.

It is! The 10x45 RF Zeiss also have a built in range finder. It does come at a cost though.

The Leicas are slightly better optically, but then again, they are 18 years newer. The built in rangefinder is a great timesaver in that I can range an animal as I judge that animal, which does away with having to use another instrument to range the animal after judging it.

Sort of, it does make the bino heavier but you aren't carrying a rangefinder.

Well aren't we a rich bunch here this afternoon :) I'm poor so Vortex Diamondbacks, love em. However one day Swaro's or Zeiss's will grace my neck!

I am another one in the less expensive category.
I have been using a set of Bushnell Legend 10x42's for the last 8 years. They have been a great bino for the price. Back in the day they retailed for $430.
I would really like a set of Zeiss 10 X 45 RF's but they aren't in the budget as of yet.

ha ha im definately not rich ive just been saving for a while the glass ive bought are 2nd hand from ebay but were a collectors so rarely came out of the box im very very happy with them, a lot of folks ive spoke to seem to think the 10x40 classic t*p* is the best zeiss have ever made!:sHa_shakeshout:

a litle heavy but so what!!

i also have a set of little bushnells binos that i found on a cutline in the moutains that a coyote chewed on. these are my disposable ones.

always spend money on glass. resale is better and faster, quality in the meantime is better, your eyes will thank you.no headaches or eyestrain after a couple of hours of gawking
