the lake has springs apparently. Ive driven right across it, freaks me out everytime, i go SLOWWWWWWWWW. Stay away from the creek mouths.
Good for small d!nk hammer handle pike, Supposedly there is walleye in there, ive ran a Aqua view a couple years back alot in there, and never seen one. And the perch are hit and miss, alot of small ones, but there are some freakin' Beast Perch in there. I have witnessed 13-14 inchers being pulled out and taped there. Not so much a search game, Some areas better than others year round. Nil Hali chain droppers and Marmooskas are great here tipped with maggots. Great for kids and try to keep the Blacktail shiners off your hooks by using bigger bait. |
Hey guys,
What's the best way to access this lake. I drive past it on the way to our cabin all the time, but have never stopped to fish it. I just bought a new Aqua-vu and am dying to try it. Only have half a day to fish this weekend so I'd like to try Devils since it close. Thanks |
My brother has fished it a bit this winter. Won't drive on this year (not yet anyway). Hasn't had much luck....small stuff or even skunked once. He was in the boat last spring/summer when his partner caught a Walleye there- has the photos to prove it.

HaHa.... Not hard to find them... Just use Binoculars from the creek crossing as you drive over it.:D |
Thanks guys,
Anyone going there this weekend? If I'm out I might stop by and say hey! |
I believe Devil's is a nickname. What is the real name of the lake?
|
The real name is Matchayaw Lake. I f you tell someone you were fishing there they will have no clue where you were as everyone knows it as Devils Lake!!!

Monster perch
I was first introduced to Devil's Lake when I was about 14, some 37 years ago. Our first encounter occured in March when the weather was very warm and fishing at first was very slow. After some time, as a young person does, I lost interest and decided to build a snowman around mid day. When this feat was acomplished, my father suggested trying to fish a different area and I agreed and proceeded to punch a hole around 100 feet to the south and west from where we were fishing. As I dropped my line through the hole it was a matter of seconds before I had one on, lifting the fish to the hole posed no problem however while lifting it up the fish spit the hook and lay across the 6 inch hole. I was in shock for I never had seen such a large perch but with one flip it was back down to the deep. I was terribly distressed and almost in tears and remember my dad hollering "you can't count em till you put your foot on em". I rebaited and tried again and within a few seconds hooked up again, this time I brought the fish out and held it up for all to see, 13 inches around 1 1/2 pounds. We cleaned up that day around 60 fish total for the party all around the same size. I have fished there several times after but my dad had to show these around the bar that he frequented and after that the big ones were gone.
