How big are the trout in Atlin lake?

Bret Amundson 06-01-2019 12:01 AM

Tazin Lake

Thanks gdbugs for the plug.

Tazin has huge lakers, great food, giant pike and very little pressure. No netting is allowed and catch-and-release policies are in place to preserve the resource. I've been up the last three years and have a 56lb and a 48lb trout, with multiple smaller fish caught. Plus a 45.5" pike last year. I've filmed multiple 50lb+ trout there, saw pics of a 67lb fish the week after we left in 2017 and in 2006, they caught a 72lber. We also filmed TWO 51" pike within 4 days last year.

Check out "Tazin TV" on our website (www.tazinlake.com) or on youtube.

Headed up again in two weeks, I can't wait!

Yes it looks like a nice Lake might be the one, prices aren't too bad I'd like to see a picture of that 72 pounder that would be the new world record.

The way I understand it, is that it was just shy of the record. Here is the video:

Whatever lake you choose Randy let me know, if you have room for another guy I would like the opportunity to go. Good luck with the search I am following closely.

Bret Amundson 06-01-2019 08:46 AM

The other benefit we have is a big island in the middle of the lake, so no matter which way the wind blows from, we have places we can fish. Good luck with the search and let me know if you have any more questions!

Here's an overview video that includes footage from the flight in from Fort Mac, a picture of the 67lb-er (held by a guy that's 6'5"), and what else you can expect there.

35 whelen 06-01-2019 09:24 AM

IF theres other people interested ,I love doing the research and might get better deal with more people,

schleprock 06-01-2019 01:33 PM

I also am following this post with great interest as I guided at the arctic circle lodge on great bear lake during the 1981,1982 and 1983 seasons. A few years ago it reopened under the plummer's organization and I would like to go there next year as either part of a group or just filling a spot to give a group the extra required person needed for the trip and fishing solo.

True 40 there are very few places. I know you don't want to go there but plummers on great bear is the place.

Kluane from what I've seen is comparable to athapap, maybe slightly better.

One nice thing about Athapapuskow is that you have other options nearby as well if you don't want to stick to one lake or have a desire to chase some other species. Clearwater is only an little over an hour down the road and also known for huge lakers. Grass River has good walleye fishing, Rocky Lake for smallmouth, Barbe for rainbows and brookies.

I own a lodge on the barrenlands of the NWT called Aylmer Lake Lodge. We have 1,700 sq on of water the has never been commercially or aboriginal net fished ever as we are to far remote for them.
Our biggest landed last summer was 52” lake trout and 4.5 arctic grayling.
Pm me for more information.
